I am replacing the head now and want to port it and touch up any flaws. My question is when i disassemble the head can i put the valves back in the same location with out new seats and machine work, the head is off a car that ranwith good compression but started leaking between oil and coolant passages after over heating.

how far can i safely shave the head

is it a stupid idea to grind the casting seams off of the rocker arms

:thinker any input is appreciated

The valves do not have to be in the same location. but make sure you have a machine shop do a valve job for you.

Why are you shaving the head ? you think there is benefits to shaving ?

Grind away on the rocker arms.

You would have to shave a nice chunk out to make any diff. and then you would have other problems.. its not worth the effort time and money.
