hey guys, so my fully built ka with honed 89.5mm cylinders and pistons spun all mains after 500 miles.. long story not gonna go into it. Anyways i have my spare block at the machineshop now and im gonna transfer everything over. The pistons i have are the wiseco 89.5mm's and their piston rings, so the question is, do I need to order new piston rings (and where!?) after 500 miles? Or if i have fresh cylinders then those piston rings will seat fine in those too

Thanks for inputMarko

what if it doesnt seal properly then what, im pretty sure your not gonna want to remove your head and oil pan to redo the hone and install new rings.

get new rings, wiseco can send you new rings or im pretty sure you can match aftermarket ones.

Huh, I dunno how I didn't see this thread floating in here...

Honestly, you could go either way here, I've taken the rod/piston/ring combo out of an old motor and installed it into mine on several occasion. This was on an RB20, but the concept is the same. This was on a stock motor. I knew it would be raced and I knew I'd pop more pistons, so I didn't really care. It did work well however.

But on a built motor, I'd get new rings. Start fresh, hopefully this time you'll remember to keep enough oil in it...lol.

I would replace them, especially if the pistons are getting moved over to another block. The honing of the block + new piston rings allows them to seat properly to provide good compression.
