Maybe a silly question, but just want to make sure.

In early May, my Z club is flying up the Specialty Z guys to tune vehicles. I currently have an automatic and plan to swap it to manual. If I don't get the swap done before then, would I be wasting my time with this tune session, or will the auto tune hold for the new transmission going in?

Thanks!

yes because the cams are vtc not like honda but they have variable timing. The gear ratios are different. So the timing needs to be adjusted. correct me if im wrong.

VTC is actuated by engine speed, has nothing to do with transmission.

Your car will make more power to the wheels with the manual, but you should not need a retune. Check with Greg to confirm. He's only a quick email or call away, super approachable guy.

Talked to Greg at SpecialtyZ, here is his response:

"We can perform the tune with a stick program and we can manually lock the converter, so we can make a good tune and it will still work while it is automatic.
The power will show lower as the automatic pump inside the trans robs additional power to run the pump."

Just wanted to share it if someone pulls up this topic in the future. In short, it seems like if they didn't have this 'stick program' the tune would have to be redone. Just your numbers on the little dyno sheet will come out a little lower than they otherwise would, and performing the swap will up your hp numbers.
