you need to jumper the two upper right pins on the data link connector with the ignition switch in the run position and motor not running. Your engine light will flash and you will get a 2 didgit number. Or, you can do it on the ecu itsself. 1) Start engine and warm to opperating temperature.2)On the ECU turn the diagnostic mode selector ( one of the 2 volume nob looking things, I think the one on the right) fully clockwise untill both LED's flash 3 times.3)Then turn the selector fully counter-clowise. The ECU is now in the "self-diagnostic" mode.4) count the number of times the LED (don't remember if the red or green one flashes) and thats your code.Long Flash - 0.6 seconds on (the first digit)

Short Flash - 0.3 seconds on (the second digit)

Long Gap - 2.1 seconds off (used between codes)

Short Gap - 0.9 seconds off (used between digits)

There are two digits in each code. Count the long flashes, then the short flashes (only count how many times the light is ON) and you'll have a 2 digit code.I don't know if the codes are the same for the altima and the 240sx but here's what I got.

11- crank angle sensor circuit12- air flow meter curcuit13- Engine temp sensor circuit14- vehicle speed sensor circuit21- ignition signal missing in primary coil31- ECU (ECCS control unit)32- EGR function33- Exhaust gas sensor circuit (this is your O2 sensor)35- exhaust gas temp sensor circuit41- air temp sensor circuit43- throttle sensor circuit45- injector leak55- no malfunction in the above circuit

I hope this helps.

i tried jumping the connector and that didnt work, that is if i got the right holes. i was going to try doing it on the ecu but i was told it is in the center console and i dont feel like ripping my dash apart. so does anyone who if autozone can plug into my car and read my codes?
