29 people voted in the poll.

15 thought te SUV was generally a waste of resources.

0 people though the SUV was generally a good use of resources.

14 people had trouble understanding the two previous responses and so chose the third option.

1 person thought that eating more jelly doughnuts would cure obesity. :D

LOL - Hey, WAIT A MINUTE!!!

I don't really like your explanation of option #3. Next time I come to Chicago I'm gonna drive the 'Burb. We'll go 4-wheeling. :D

That thread should be kept for posterity - I'll see if we can get it converted to an article or something....

Only if incorporated into a strict regimen of loafing and lounging.

And some of us that chose the third option still disagree with the premise of the question. There is no standard with which to make a judgemnt or comparison regarding good or wasteful.

If the question was structured in a way that one could compare the wasteful or good use of resources, then the use of resources would be relevant.

Few would argue the fact that a large SUV is MORE wasteful than a Nissan Sentra. This does not mean that the Nissan sentra is "generally a good use of resources" or that the SUV is "generally a waste of resources". Your logic is flawed.

Hey, I love off roading. However, I've read stats that say over 90% of SUV 4x4's never leave paved roads. I would guess that the percentage of these vehicles that are used for towing applications is even less. These are the stats that led to the word "generally" being used in the poll.

"Generally", these vehicles are resource hogging status symbols which rarely perform the tasks they were designed for and raise the price of fuel for us all. All in the name of fashion. High gas prices will eventually take care of the fad but peole who can't or won't buy new cars are going to have their options more limited for the next few years that's for sure.
