I just bought a really crappy 96 maxima and I'm going to completely clean out the entire interior to make it my DD. The only thing I need help with atm is the parking brake leather boot. It is in terrible condition and torn. Is there any way I can replace it? It doesnt look like the whole trim can come off easily and I cant seem to find anywhere that sells another boot.

Also is there any way at all I can change the shifter? its an automatic but i have seen pictures of automatics on this forum where they changed the shifter. I actually want one where you dont have to push in a shift lock button.

first of all you already f cked up by calling it crappy. Second... There is thick gauge wire frame holding ur ebrake boot on. Just push down and pop it outta the track. You can change the auto shifter but why? You should be scoping the motor to see what needs to be replaced, then do the interior.when i bought my 96 it was my cousins beer table/yard ornament. Now and a couple gs later its one of the sickest cars my whole crew has besides my boys 740 IL

But seriously andyandy, Go check out Redline's shift boots...they look great.

Here's a picture of one:

Now thats on a 240 but they'll make'em for your Max. I personally don't like that style, it looks like an uncircumsized d!ck.

I do like this style though(also a 240):

Good luck on getting your Max where you want it!!

...or you can get a dirt cheap boot on ebay. i'd leave the stock shifter because you have the option of OD off. unless you want to wire a separate switch for that.

Or that.

Oh and shifter wise Levoc shifters have an overdrive button. They are sorta hard to find but a few places carry them. I think they look tits.

Okay sorry if it sounded like it but I wasnt referring to nissan maximas as crappy. I meant crappy as in the interior was disgusting. pretty much looked like a coffee mug exploded in the car. coffee stains everywhere, extremely dusty, everything was just dusty, sticky, or just dirty. but 2 days and one night of hard cleaning and I must say the interior looks almost brand new. its amazing how much of a difference it made. The thing with the shifter is, the OD off button doesnt seem to work. I press the button and it seems to do nothing, but the rpms arent high on highway as if it was on OD off so I think its pretty much stuff in OD. I dont know how to fix it but I think its fine.

As for the parking brake boot, I can not figure out how to take it off for the life of me. Can someone point me to where I would be able to buy a new one? This is a completely stock car so I dont want anything sporty looking, just a normal brown leather one will be perfect. I havent had any luck on google or ebay. well I did find some on ebay just now.. but is 30 dollars dirt cheap?..

http://www.ebay.com then motors then parts and accessories then nissan, maxima,96 and finally keyword boot...

or http://motors.shop.ebay.com/_C...+boot

to check if your od off switch works get to about 70mph and press it - if downshifts = working. might be just the bulb out inside gauge cluster.

Yeah I did say I passed by some on ebay, I just thought you meant "dirt cheap" as in there were used ones. Its fine though.

But like I said I know for a fact that the button doesnt work. On the highway the rpms arent high as if its in OD off and pressing the button doesnt do anything. Does anyone know how to fix that?

Also the car came with a crappy jvc stereo head unit. Im a complete noob when it comes to anything car audio. when I go buy another head unit, will any cd player fit in there or are there certain ones that are compatible with certain cars?

Thanks for the help and patience guys.

Well if your car already has an aftermarket HU in it then you can get whatever you want.

Hopefully the last person didn't botch the wiring on the old HU...other wise good luck to you sir.
