I bought a '86 Nissan EX from a buddy at work. The truck is a 4-cyl 4x4 D21 hardbody MT. The prior owner installed the battery in backwards and fried the wiring. I was informed that all the wiring has been replaced. When started, truck will only run for a few seconds. We have checked the fuel lines to make sure the injector is receiving fuel. We don't believe that the ECM is working properly. When we try to run diagnostics on the ECM...it won't even go through the modes....it only spits out codes 23 and 24. We even bought a refurbished ECM from a auto parts store, but it won't even light up. (yes, it was properly installed) The only way we can keep the truck running is to lightly spray gasoline in the injectors. Obviously, the injectors are not firing correctly. What steps should I take next???Should I keep messing with the ECM and buy a properly working one or should I tackle the injector system?

I am far from a pro, but it may be worth spending $100 or so to take it to a shop they can hook it up to a diagnostic computer. They should be able to tell you all the issues that need attention. I think it would be foolish to continue to spend money on parts hoping it works. Just a thought..... Good luck!!

At times when the battery is installed incorrectly it will burn out the ecm and toast the injectors. I have removed the injectors to find the insulation inside the injector running out of the fuel inlet holes in the injectors under the filter screens.
