Two more great quotes from a remarkable man:

"Peace through strength"

and

"Trust but verify" (this one I have on my office door)...

President Bush has declared Friday, June 11, at National Day of Mourning for the death of former President Reagan. All I can say is, thank you Bush for realizing the importance of such a great man.

Did anyone happen to watch the funeral today? It was horrible seeing people appluad and cheer when nacy walked out, and then have grins on their faces taking pictures pointing at Reagan's coffin. Do these people not know how to act at a funeral, let alone one for a president?? Are we THAT bad as americans??

Actually, Seth, I'm watching it right now - The applause, I believe, is for Nancy out of respect... Hard to explain.

I think the shared smiles are what President Reagan would have wanted - Optimism, even in our darkest days.

Ronald Reagan-Tear down this wall

that was amazing!

i cried when Nancy said her goodbye to him. especially because he was a good president, and a damn good human being for that matter.

see you "up there" someday mr. president.

edit: i am not even an US citizen, i just think that the whole berlin wall event was truly amazing.

My feelings for former-President Ronald Reagan are ,at best, lukewarm and I don't particularly hold him in such high regard as others here, but I would still like to tip my hat to a charismatic and likable leader.

I agree with Sopadope. I also did not consider his performance as President as great as some folks here seem to believe so strongly, but I cannot dispute his patriotism and charisma. Our country lost a good man, and my thoughts are with his wife and his family.

The moment Mrs. Reagan put her head on the coffin and cried, all of us here watching on television wept. It was a moment I will never ever forget.

Watching his children speak of him and his life/memories, was one of the most beautiful moments I have ever had the pleasure of seeing.

Patti and Ron did not exactly have a warm/fuzzy relationship with Ronald/Nancy during his presidential years, especially Patti. But it's good that they made their peace.

1der, A piece of your childhood? How old were you when he was president?

I was wondering as I was watching the coverage...

They mentioned that he and Jane Wyman had a daughter (Maureen) then adopted a son. Then he and Nancy had Ron Jr and Patty.

I know Maureen died a couple years back, but they never mention what happened to the adopted son...

Michael was his name. I think he's still around, but not in the public spotlight. He wrote a somewhat scandalous autobiogrpahy many years ago while his father was president. It was rather unflattering about his relationship with his father, who he described as distant at best. What came out from his book was that RR was not the perfect family values guy he portrayed himself to be when he preached itwhile running for re-election. I think Ronald/Nancy put a lotta more distance from him after that book.

I remember Maureen was active in politics, and I remember Patti looked pretty good when she posed for Playboy many years ago.

Michael Reagan has a syndicated talk show. He is a conservative and very pro Reagan. If you saw him speak yesterday, you will have an understanding of how deep their relationship was.

He said some of most simple and beautiful words a son could say to a father..

Funny store Michael was sharing....

When he was 8 he asked for a higher allowance... Ronny explained how the govt takes 90 cents out of every dollar he makes 90% tax rate.. He said as soon as someone slashed his taxes, he would give his son a raise..

Long story short Kennedy came into office and slashed the tax rate, and gave his son a raise...

He then said he got the ultimate raise when his dad went into office and cut the the top tax from rate from 70% to slighty under 30 :)

Born in 81 here.. nice to know someone other then me remembers his presidency even though we were kids through it.

I remember watching the wall come down.. Wasn't quite old enough to understand the true significance, just remember being amazed something like that existed...

I can relate... I was old enough to understand the significance, and I too was amazed that such a thing existed. At the time, I was dating a girl from West Germany whose parents had been seperated from their oldest son and their siblings by the wall....

I remember feeling so proud when he said "Tear down this wall!"

In some ways he did improve the world, but in other ways he made it worse. Wasn't all good. Great man, but not the greatest president.

Someone post up his quote about putting the faith in the people, and saying the government isn't the solution, it's the problem.

Bolder words have not since been spoken
