I am new to this forum, but not new to NISMO induced, road going satisfactions as it were. I am a grown-a** man, looking to do a grown-a** man, Rb25 or Rb26 swap into my recently purchased 95 SE. I'm looking to spend roughly 5500-6000 for the swap. And i'm looking to make 350-400 whp after modifications to said swap. My questions are:

Feasibility of swap budget?

Ballpark cost of tuning goal?

I realize that the Rb26 is the obvious winner over the 25. However, im not seeking a maniacal 600 whp, so i'm wondering if "buying a flamethrower to light a cigarette" is a good call. Also if any of you that have endured the trial of this swap, would feel compelled to divulge any common pitfalls/mistakes to me, it woud be greatly appreciated.

A thousand pardons on what i suspect is a heavily faq, gentleman/ladies.

^ha. Ok but seriously, the Rb25 swap you will be really close to your budget unless you are careful with your spending and do the work yourself. The RB26 will more thank likely cost you a good deal more than that. You have to take a few things into consideration: Engine/transmission cost itself, mounts, cross member, exhaust, drive shaft, fuel pump, intercooler, and all the parts that should be bought for basic maintenance before the motor ever goes in to the car.

The RB26 you are close to $3,500-4k just for the motor, and you then have to purchase a RWD transmission and parts above ^

I am being pretty vague on the list of items (as I'm just touching key points) but you get the idea. Its more significant than just buying a motor set and dropping it in.

The 25 could be doable for that budget but like I said: you will have to shop smart and do the work yourself.

Thanks for the input. I'm coming to the conclusion that the 25 might be the best route for my power goals/budget.

Since you're a grown man, as you stated. Then we won't spoon feed you answers like a baby. Go search.

To those of you who contributed to my inquiry, thank you.

To those of you that are curious about my sexual orientation, pardon my poor choice of words. Didnt mean to get you all excited. Good luck in your search for "life partners". Clowns.

And to Duffman1278, this is a forum, right? For questions and answers? If you don't have anything nice to say...

The rb26 will cost more than $5500-$6000 that you have budgeted out, how much more depends on how motivated you are to do the work yourself. The good thing is that the stock turbos on the rb26 are good for around 350-400hp, just add a boost controller and a 3in exhaust of your choice. The bad thing is it takes a good amount of work to get the rb26 in for not a lot of monies, cut the front diff off the oil pan, disable the transfer case and cut off the t-case hump or cut a hole in the floor pan for clearance, doing those 2 things will save you almost $1000, you can save another few hundred by making your own down pipe.

The rb25 will be basically pound a few spots on the fire wall for clearance, stab motor, hook everything up (wiring, power steering, inter cooler, ect...) and go.(I know that is a over simplified description) To reach your power goals you'll need to add a larger turbo a set of injectors and something to tune it with(safc doesn't count) all of that will be hard to do with a 6k budget, but it is possible, you will just need to find crack head deals on stuff.

To reach close to 400 ^ like he said, you will need to upgrade a few things. Maybe try and find used injectors and gt30 or something and get a tune. May net you mid 300's

Thank you gentlemen. This shall be a long and arduous build indeed. I have decided to tackle it in stages. Suspension is phase one. A quick question, I have the sub-frame shift knock that is all too common with the 240 platform. Aluminum subframe collars, inserts, or both?

The best thing would be the spl aluminum sub-frame bushings, they are a little bit of a pain to get installed(mainly removing the stock bushings) but they are so worth it.
