Hi everybody

My greenish 320 paint is in fair condition, however, I would like to return the pick up to show quality. I have stripped the pick up with the exception of the chrome( will be done) and the glass.I have already identified a spray painter whose work is excellent and professional. I do not want to change colour. I have never had any dealings with spray painting and, rather have your independent opinions.

Should I:
1. strip the paint to bare metal?
2. get the glass removed (windscreen)?

Thank you

atabale,

How are we doing down in SA? Hope all is well. You know the answer to these two questions and it is YES and YES.

A good, maybe paranoid, body/rust dude or dudette will tell you that rust is a lively organism (not quite) that does not rest and that it will eventually it will come back...again and again. Some shops I've seen even do not guarantee their work because they know it will return given enough time and with the right environmental conditions sooner rather than later.

So yes, down to the bare metal. You do not want to apply todays high tech epoxies and sealant over 50 year old factory primer on sanded down paint as they contains moisture and impurities that will come back to haunt you and your 320's new finish.

Windshield Removal - Yes, this is also the perfect opportunity to remove the glass if you have the new window seals. The bottom corners on any car or truck is place that rusts easily as water just puddles here. At dirt and fine sand to the water and now you have rubbed through your paint and primer given enough time. You will get a first hand look at your bottom corners and will be able to determine if your corners have any rust and whether repairs are needed.

Do you need the paint code?

cheers
Andy
