As you may have heard Governor Frank O'Bannon of Indiana died Saturday morning as the result of a massive stroke suffered last Monday. I just wanted to share a story about a great human being brimming with Integrity and Decency.
I was working as a runner for a law firm in Indy a few years ago. I was filing some appeals papers at the statehouse when I literarly ran into Governor O'Bannon. I was reading something and looking down when i walked right into him. I apologized and told him it was an honor to meet him. We ended up talking for about 15 minutes about all sorts things, mostly my future and my schooling. About 3 months later, while at the statehouse, I walked past the Governor and he called me by name and asked how things were going and if I did well on a mid-term paper that I was worried the last time we talked. I was shocked that he remembered me to begin with, but he remembered our conversation as well. Over the years we had talked several times in the halls of the statehouse and the sidewalks of Indy.
Frank O'Bannon was a great a man. I am certain that there is not a sole who could say otherwise. While I and many others did not agree with his politics, I did however respect the man. He was a true statesman, working for the people and doing what he thought was best for the people and the state. It is difficult to find such a person now-a-days involved in politics.
Integrity and decency. Frank O'Bannon was not only the Governor of Indiana, he was a grandfather to us all.
Thank you Frank for your service.
