Well I just had my resonator box removed and replaced with a straight pipe. The whole re and re cost 40 bucks(cdn).Pretty good deal i guess. I think it made a difference. Not only in sound but i think the car is more throttle responsive especially from 3 to 4th gear change. I recommend this little mod for anyone with 89-93 years. My question is for later model 240 owners....Is there a resonator on later models? I have been looking to purchase a 95 240 but havent started much research(been too busy with my 91). Any major differences in exhaust system setup? I ask only because of the things nissan corrected and left out on the later models IE:AIV box etc. Thanks for any info!

yes the later models have the resonator. i think the only real change in the exhaust was the cat style and location.

the resinator is to silence air intake so it cant be heard. it is the black box near the air cleaner with a waffle pattern on the top surface.

420sex: THe resonator box is not the black box with "waffle" design on it.The resonator box I am talking about is the "mini muffler" between the cat and the main muffler. It is designed to muffle about 15-20% (or so) of the main exhaust noise coming from the engine. The process is easy.Go to any muffler shop (unless you have a wire feed welder) and have them cut out the resonator and add a piece of 2 1/4 (stock size) pipe in place.weld it all together and then have them weld a support piece of round stock to the oem rubber hanger. Now your left with a straight pipe from the cat to the main muffler. There also is another smaller resonator right after the cat but I have not removed it yet . It is a very simple mod but I found it to be very effective in reducing back pressure and the muffler is only slightly louder but then again loud pipes save lives!!!

I'm doing the same to my 89 240sx. Stock exhaust size is 1 7/8s - basically 2 inch. Chances are the muffler shop put on a 2.25 inch piece because it would then fit on like a sleeve.

By sound clip he means a wav file or something that has your car idling in it....or revving :) which is something i'd like to hear too :)

Ibrowne: I've checked out that website and I couldn't find out if they were in b.c. or not. I guess I'll have check it more closely. In town here we have a couple of aftermarket shops but I can get stuff at 10% -15% over cost at a local auto parts store due to the fact my wife works there. Unfortunatly I cant get some certain products so I've had to have some things custom built(easier than ordering some things in a small town). If you want some prices I could check them for you no problem.Just give me an email and let me know what your looking for. Plus my best friend has an 89 and he has a bit of a surplus of parts and some contacts for specialty stuff.Hope to hear from ya.
