The resonator box is part of the air intake. It basically acts like a muffler for the intake. Removing it might help a little. It really doesn't restrict airflow, but it does increase the air mass within the intake which MIGHT reduce the ability of the intake to pull efficiently. It is not necessary. If you have an s14 it is located infront of the front, driver's side wheel well. It is easy to remove.
