I have a bad knock sensor and i have some 470k resistors and i was thinking about plugging it into my harness and i was wondering if it was a safe alternative to replacing my knock sensor. is there any possibility of major damage to my computer or anything else.

The knock sensor is needed to curb denotation in the engine during regular driving. The resistor will fool the ecm temporarily because the knock sensor information tells the ecm to advance or retard the ignition timing. If you have to much denotation for too long you could put a hole in a piston.

What type of nissan do you have?

Just be careful if you do this. When faced with these issues I look to determine what it costs to properly fix the problem vs. what could fail due to a "work around". That helps me make the decision

I have a 95 Max and I replaced the knock sensor in less than 20 mins (time may vary due to mechanical experience). Tools needed:

1. 12mm universal socket (not a regular socket and universal adapter)

2. ratchet extension that are 1 and a half feet long more or less.

(you may have to move a vacuum control solenoid to gain hand access)

Use this setup to loosen the bolt and you MUST USE THE KNOCK SENSOR TO CARRY THE BOLT OUT!!! To install:

PLUG THE WIRE HARNESS TO THE NEW KNOCK SENSOR FIRST!!!!

1. (Depending on the size of you hand) put the bolt in the new knock sensor and use you hand to guide the setup in the hole(scaring on hand may occur)

2. use the tool setup to torque the bolt.

NOTE:

If the bolt does not move, DO NOT FORCE IT!!!

Make sure the bolt started in the hole correctly, DO NOT FORCE IT!!!

I have been a mechanic on and off for 20 years and I did the knock sensor myself hope this helps.

thanks for all the info. i have taken 3 years of automotive classes one was a vocational class. i can fix the sensor myself but the only problem is im having a hard time coming up with 160 bucks to get a sensor, i work at a grocery store and have insurance and other financial obligations. i also have a vehicle speed sensor code. i could go and replace these sensors but how can i be sure that the sensor is bad and not a mechanical problem. i slept during the electrical unit of my voc class plus my teacher was a jerk so im not that familiar with multimeters.

$123.06 better? Check out Pinnacle (item #65 on that page I think). That's what the sponsors are here for. Be sure to let them know you are a NICO member when ordering.
