What is the diffrence between Carbon Fiber Resin & Fiber Glass Resin?

Im gathering up items for a DiY Carbon fiber skinning kit for my eyelids/interior pieces etc..i know their are complete kits out there but it thought it be more fun to hunt down everything i need from local auto/hardware stores..

-edit-Exactly what kind(s) of resin is CLEAR, i found some that cure an amber color, dont what that!

I would suggest that you just order online and ask them to recommend the correct combination for your purpose.http://www.uscomposites.com/index.html

There are a lot of epoxy and polyester resins suitable for both carbon or fiberglass. I don't suggest that you try to piece things together because there are so many varieties... thin, thick, clear, semi-clear, slow-, medium-, fast-dry, low shrink, high heat, etc.... just too many choices to consider for a casual diy'er. Also I don't remember ever seeing carbon fiber cloth and resin at a typical auto or hardware store.

If you are going to buy the cloth online I don't understand, from both a convenience and compatibility standpoint, why you would want to get the resin from a different source.

If you go to a marine or paint supply shop they will be able to give you better advice and probably actually have a good stock of various resin. Since this is not a standard item and will vary depending on what store is around you, its useless to try to pick a specific product. Just go to the store and find a 'general use epoxy' or pick one with the qualities you want - clear and slow/medium dry are probably the only things you require.

Like I said though... either an epoxy, or polyester resin will work. If you are bent on getting it at a local store then Bondo brand is likely your only option. The Bondo resin is a clear polyester.
