I finally have 1000/1000, and I'm pretty bored at work, so I think I'll give this game a review.
My video game background:GoW 1 & 2Halo 3CoD4I'm mainly a twitch gamer.
The controls is pretty much the same as RE4, with the exception of a sidestep feature, and using the D-pad to quickly chose weapons in a pre-set selection. You have 9 boxes total, and no longer have to worry about the size of everything to fit into these boxes. This is a nice little feature to have, but it can quickly become annoying if you like carrying alot of weapons. You have to be smart about what you carry, but when you die, or at the end of a chapter, you can switch out your inventory and even upgrade and sell before you continue.
Gameplay is solid. You get swarmed twice in the very beginning, and you have to pick your battles or become very good at meleeing. The co-op comes in very handy. You can team up with physical combos on the majini(the enemy), and even use each other to climb up on top of things, or heal one another when in need. You will get overwhelmed completely if you have no clue how to keep moving. Veteran was annoying, Professional(unlocked after beating the game on Veteran) is downright impossible to complete if you don't have at least one gun on infinite. Ammo is very scarce in this setting. You can get around this by playing the game/levels on a easier setting and saving.
The downside to the gameplay is it's become rather distant to what the RE franchise was. You no longer have hard puzzles to solve, or have incredibly eerie moments that made you want to stay in a "type writer room". Bosses aren't that hard either, at least if you have quick reflexes. There are many moments you'll be button mashing. One thing about this RE game is that you're still wasting ammo. The laser can be hard to pin on the enemies sometimes, similar to bad camera angles existent in RE1-3.
Partner AI learns along the way. It's shots get better as you play more often, but sometimes it wont heal you right away, or shoot and cover you. If you play with it more often, it becomes a better partner.
Story is GREAT! You team up with Sheva Alomar, who you'll get to know through her unlockable her file. It finally tells you what Wesker has been developing, and pretty much wraps the original story line up. I can't go into too much detail, because I'll be giving you spoilers. This game, however, is supposedly the end of Act I for Resident Evil. Meaning new characters are supposed to be coming along with a new source of evil since Umbrella is dead.
Graphics are pretty good as well. As least as far as I can tell on a 20inch tube T.V.
Replay Value is great as well. Since you can go back to different chapters and save you game and status, you can continually repeat levels to collect ammo and money for weapon upgrades. There's only a few guns you have to actually purchase, but if you explore the game, you'll save quite a bit of money by finding the main guns. The Mercenary side game is back again.
If you're a glutton for RE and achievements, this game doesn't disappoint. You have emblems to collect that are placed in awkward places as well as treasures. If you collect all the emblems, you can unlock different costumes and filters. The filters I believe are there, not only to give a different picture effect, but to make the game a little harder if it's not hard enough for you.
Unfortunately with the gems, you can't combine them to get more money out of them(that puzzle is gone as well! ).
I've heard about a DLC coming out for the game that gives a Vs. mode along with new costumes and possibly more mercenary levels.
Overall, I'd give this game a 8.7 out of 10. I really want my zombies back as well as some of the puzzles. I'd like to play as "Bird Girl" too because I'd like to know her side story as well.
ProsVery cinematic gameplay, good replay value.
ConsNo eerieness, and doesn't take alot of brains to kill things.
