So........

I was going to attempt to get rid of the orange rings around the gauges. Decided not to do it after I got the plastic piece out. As I was putting it back in I apparently bumped the tach and speedo needles and now they won't read right no matter how many times I set them back to zero with the car off    . If I set them back to zero and let the car sit for an hour or so the both drop below zero and read incorrectly. Kinda getting tired of having to set the needles every time I start the car.

Anyone know if there is a way to set them back to where they should be permanently?

So....... After not getting any suggestions here :wtf2: I did a YouTube search and found a video that a guy did re calibrating the gauges on the 02-04 Altimas. I couldn't find one for the 07-12 models so I thought what the hell, let's try what he did and sure enough it worked :mike . Wasn't perfect at first but after a couple times through the procedure and some minute adjustments I got my gauges back to where they are supposed to be. Keep in mind that you will have to remove the black trim that houses the start button. I also suggest that you unplug the two buttons on the right side that control the information computer so that you can move the trim piece to the side. I tried to set mine on the dash (BIG MISTAKE) it now has gouges in it  . It's OK though. Just gives me an excuse to get the other half on board with spending money on a dash mat :chuckle: . You will also need to remove the tinted cover that is over the gauges (although I suspect if your needles have gotten out of wack you have already completed these steps :rotflmao ). In my case I was replacing the tinted plastic cover that the ***hole who detailed my car scratched the hell out of :wtf2: . The needles got screwed when I took the lower plastic piece off to research the idea of getting rid of the orange rings around the gauges. Anyway, here is what you need to do:

1: While holding in the trip reset button turn the ignition to the "on" position. Don't start the car just press the button to the on position. (Every possibile light in the odometer/trip display should light up).
2: Quickly press and release the trip button three times in a row.
3: Now if you press and hold the trip button all of the needles will move to the Calibration position.
4: While holding down the trip reset button gently remove each needle and put it back on with the needle pointing to the values indicated below.

RPM (Tach)-----1500
Speed0-----50km/h (weird I know but this is where it has to be set)
Gas gauge-----1/2 tank
Temp gauge-----half way

5: Turn ignition to off position and then start the car as normal.
6: Tach should show around 800rpm at idle and the speedo should be at zero
7: Gas and temp gauges will vary in reading depending on how much gas you have in the car and if the car has been driven or let idle at running temperature.
