I own a 2002 Altima with a 3.5. The other day (out of the blue) when I started the car the check engine light, "SLIP" and "TRAC OFF" light stayed on. The car would drive but the engine would occasionally buck and miss. The Mass Airflow sensor was the culprit, so a new one ($599.00 for the part alone!!!) was installed. Now the car runs perfectly but the mechanic neglected to reset the check engine light. (The other lights are off now) He's off to Florida and the Dealer wants $85 and a half-day to reset the light.

I have read several theories on how to reset the light. Assuming their are no other issues with the car, will it eventually reset itself, is there something I can do....or am I going to have to shell out ANOTHER 100 bucks and be without my baby for another day??

If there are no other problems with the car the light should go out within 3 warm up cycles from stone cold to operating temp with a typical drive pattern to follow each warm up cycle. If after a week of daily driving the light doesnt go out I suspect something else is wrong. Additional note here. I dont understand how a bad airflow meter was related to you traction control lights coming on. That system does not use airflow meter input. Was there something else he addressed as well?

First,

Thanks for the help!

As for the "christmas tree" of warning lights.... I have been told that this is typical. Apparently THIS combination of light is the result of either a 'mass air sensor' or a bad coil (there are six(I assume) coils). About 2 years ago after getting the car detailed I had a similar problem...same lights but it 'cured itself' within an hour. I supected water where it shouldn't have been (the engine was 'detailed' too). That time no codes were stored (I was told)

BTW This has been a gret car...95,000 kms (60,000 miles(?)) but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was floored by $599 for a M.A.S. OUCH!

yes MAF's are typically very expensive. I have not ever seen any traction control lights come on when a MAF fails on the altima around here. Thats a new one to me and I have been working on these things since they came out.

Welcome to NICO btw.
