I just replaced a head gasket on my 95 240sx. The head was only off less than a week. After days of checking, re-checking EVERYTHING, I finally took it to a friend of mine's shop. After him checking and re-checking everything I already did, he did a compression test and said I had to re-seat my piston rings. what's up with that? Said it had to have at least 90psi before the cylinder would fire??

First off, if compression was fine before (except the cylinders where the hg was leaking) than cams aren't timed right. If everything is timed properly, I would suspect valves not seating properly, not rings. To get a accurate diagnostic of your issue a leak down needs to be performed.

I had the head resurfaced, And I assume the did a valve job since it had that blue stuff all over the combustion chambers. And other than all the marks being lined up, how else would I time the cams? I've ran it a couple days now and it seems to run a little better each time...?
I don't know that the compression wasn't fine before, as I just got the car, but it did run ALLOT better. Very peppy.

Thanks compactfean... I'll do a leakdown test
