Would using copper RTV be okay, instead of using the OEM paper gasket when resealing the case to my differential???

I'm not sure if there are many members here who have actually done this - but my first instinct would be to go with the OEM gasket. From looking at the service manual, it looks like there are some moving parts pretty close to the edge of the differential case, so RTV "squeeze out" would be a concern too.

Why risk it when the oem gasket is proven to last almost forever? Mine has no leaks at 282K

Obvious question. After all, this isn't an Audi!

Does anyone know the part number to the OEM gasket? Can I find it in the FSM?

I ended up using the Permatex Gear oil RTV, it's suppose to be resistant toward synthetic gear oils, I ended up torquing the cover to about 15 foot pounds after filling it with Royal Purple, I just wasn't trying to visit the Infiniti dealer, its been okay, I was also skeptical using RTV that was not specifically made for this, like the copper RTV, however the gear oil RTV reminds me of that Ultra Grey stuff, could be the same thing just marketed differently???

You saved $18.19 less the cost of the RTV. My point is I used RTV on my transmission pan for one day and it was leaking fluid all over. I replaced the RTV ASAP but Dexron 3 ATF and differential oil are a little differnt.
