I checked the FAQ's and didnt see this so I'll ask.

Since there isnt a KBB or Edmunds way to calculate what a clean 240SX/Silvia is worth what do you guys think? To set a standard we can take a car with about 100,000 miles, with any turbo'd motor (KA, CA, RB, SR) that has been professionally installed with about 50K miles on it. The car has to be in good shape and mechanically sound. Basically stock after the swap but with such usual upgrades (such as FMIC, suspension upgrades, 5 lugs) with a nice interior and exterior. Your average 240sx. S13, 14, and 15.

I'd say a swapped car can usually get 4-5k more than a stock 240sx would depending on mods and condition. I frequently see s13s for $6-8k with sr20s, while they normally go for $2-4k with the stock ka

Yeah, I paid $4700 for my S14. Not a good deal but its hard to find a 5 speed <1995 anywhere near a decent driving distance. If I could get $12,000 I would be breaking even.

k just a q, was gonna start a new thread, but this was here. I just bought another 240. A 97 with 75000 on her. what would be the resale value in 5 years? i paid 9000 and she is in PERFECT condition. I mean, i could not have found a better se. WHat do you guys think? I dont think they should go down in value as my old S13 did, its just so much more improved!

in 5 years it will be a 11 year old car. I would suspect it's worth depending on miles, and condition to be roughly 2500 dollars. That is at current rates. Not figuring in inflation and what not. Unless they become some increadably collectable car the value will drop out and hover around that 2k- 2500 area. IMO

krazy sounds about right here. Think about an 11 year old car that is similar... say a 1992 240sx SE right now. I see those for $2-3k so don't expect much more than that out of it. Cars will always depreciate in value, that's why its much easier to run it till it dies or just accept that fact.

The ford edsel is rare, but you don't see them rocketing up in price.

99.999% chance "rarity" wont cause our cars to appreciate in value. It is not a classic and it is a Japanese import. Rarity might slow down the depreciation, but not by much.

If you're worried about the future value of the car, keep it stock. Stock cars are much much higher in demand by a consumer and hold their value better than any modded car (given how much money was dumped into it).

Bottom line: unless you are pursuing a career with high reputation in show cars or performance cars (and this is stretchin it), modding your car is an impractical and very poor financial move.

So what would a nicely done 1995 SX 5 speed with an SR20DET, stock turbo, Greddy RSPL FMIC, 5 lugs, Koenig Holes 17" rims, custom 3 inch exhaust, Tien Flex coilovers, MAF, turbo timer, Spec stage III clutch, Silvia (5/6 flange) VLSD and some other minor goodies be worth with 45,000 miles on the motor? Opinions anyone??

Anything is only worth what someone else is willing to pay. I'm sure you could find the right buyer, perhaps somone who doesn't want to mod a car them selves. :batman
