Hi,

I am thinking about getting a "Versa SL Hatchback" soon, but I will need to sell the car in 2 years due to relocation.

Hence, I am a bit worried about the resale value. We all know that resale value for cars like Corolla and Civic are awesome, but I like the Versa better as car compared to these two, and would really prefer buying Versa.

I tried searching for Versa on Craigslist and Edmunds, and couldn't find anything on Craigslist and only 1 on Edmunds. Yes, the car is new, but if you search for 2006/2007 Corolla/Civis, you get way more hits.

So, should I be worried about this? How much do you think I will loose if I sell it in 2 years? Any guess/suggestions?

Thanks.

I think what you are seeing is the fact that those who have bought a Versa, at this point, aren't selling. I'd say that's a strong recommendation for the vehicle (not to mention you say 2006/2007 Corollas and Civics...the Versa has only 1 model year, 2007 and the new 2008's)

Most (if not all) of us here absoultely LOVE our Versa's. I was under the impression that Nissan's hold thier value well so if that's your only worry, I wouldn't sweat it and buy what you like. But if you ARE that worried about resale values then buy a Toyota or Honda, I guess...

My 2007 SL was $19,724 ttl. it had Convenience and aftermarket sunroof (plus a few minor extras which they transfered for me). I traded it with 7600 miles and they gave me resale value for the car which was $13,600. (obviously not with ttl). I bought another 2007 SL with Convenience, Sunroof, Audio, Sirius (sadly, it totaled to slightly less than my previous V) and the overall price difference between the two was $5600. I can explain better tonight.

Any new car takes a hit in its value as soon as you drive it off the showroom floor. You'd be better off to find a late-model used car. If you really want a Versa, check around the rental-car sales lots.

If you know you're going to sell in two years, don't get a new car. You will lose about $5000. Buy another used vehicle. You can also lease a car for two years, that way you're only paying for a portion of the vehicle's value, not the whole value like when buying. You also don't pay as much sales tax.

You could always get a lease, and at the end of the lease, you usually have the option to buy the vehicle should anything come up and you don't relocate. If you buy the vehicle, you are stuck with it, and lose more money than if you were to just lease the vehicle.
