If you are going to use the stock intercooler, take it to a radiator shop and have them pressure test it.

I would replace headgasket, brand new oem or even go metal headgasket and brand new timing chain

i took all the accessories off the block, bought an oem gasket set from ebay (it has all of them) took the block assembly to a machine shop and said break it down, change gaskets, inform me if anything is wrong and we'll go from there. i'm happy because my crankshaft was all jacked up (i looked at it too cuz they were cool with that...i hope). they said it was about to throw rods 2 and 3 because there was too much play. the walls around the journals were ground down a lot.

really i did all that for peace of mind, i'm really glad i did it. set me back the amount of another sr though so yeah, if that's not in the budget, go to church, pray, then just replace all your gaskets, probably the clutch assembly, and maybe some hoses. use that bronze or copper spray stuff on your gaskets, makes em sticky. and water pump, mine was crappy. you'll probably have to remove the studs from the old one (i just did that). and thermostat. and if you're hardcore, oil pump. mostly maintenance stuff.

ebay high cap. oil pan! (the bonus is the engine sits upright on its own now (a little tilted) cuz the oil pan is wider!

then injectors, spark plugs, oil filter, fuel filter, etc blah blah blah....

and don't worry about the timing chain, cuz if that really is f-ed up, you've probably got other problems. those things last forever though. really. nissan says so!

hope i helped

Hoses definitely. You should check the head also. Make sure your lifters don't have any air in it. Check the rockers too. Make sure they are smooth and mirror like. Since the engine will be out of the car, you should up grade the head gasket/head studs. Also if you decide to upgrade the head gasket, you should change out the intake manifold gaskets. I would have someone weld the the nut on the far left and right of the intake manifold (where the top meets the bottom) so that it is easy to take on/off. That thing some what of a pain.

Fuel filter, change to steel braided hoses for the water/oil lines on the turbo or change to new stock ones, make sure the oil return line on the turbo is good, and what DriftBoy07 said. I know it may suck and hurt your pocket a little but do it right the first time. Buying an SR20DET is an investment. Take care of it and spend money now to avoid spending a lot more later.
