Hello Z32 Community,

I don't normally post on here but am hoping to get some suggestions on what would be a good carbon fiber driveshaft + lightened flywheel combination. I am 53 and am a spirited driver who does not track his car. My 90 twin turbo is nicely cared for and I tend to drive it only on weekends as it's a 90 model with 162K; work consumes my life otherwise. It is at stage III+ boosting at approximately 14psi with a JWT ECU. Wheel hp is approximately 350. Am based in the Los Angeles area (am not sure where everyone on here hails from, but greetings).

In my searches, I see may links pop up to CZP's site for their McLeod Racing lightweight flywheel and their 1 pc Inland Empire driveshaft. Was wondering if any of you have other suggestions.

Note that there will come a time soon when I need to replace my stock turbos. But, until that day arrives, I do want to give a cf driveshaft and lightened flywheel install a shot. Many thanks for any tips coming this way.

I've never heard of any production CF driveshafts but I've never really looked. Inland empire steel is what I've had on multiple cars and have had zero issues. As for a lightened flywheel you have two basic choices: 1. Aluminum with replaceable wear surface or chromoly. I've always ran chromoly, they are cheap and can be machined to a degree. The flowing is conjecture: I've held cheap ebay chromoly FWs right next to the ones sold by the major vendors and couldn't tell a difference which leads me to believe that they all come from the same place.

Thanks for this input! I think if I am hesitant on any of the two purchases, it would likely be the flywheel. It's not that cost is the issue, but more rather, I have heard quite a few cars with the FW's exhibit that "chatter," diesel-like sound under the car. I am based in Southern California and not long ago there was a ZCON meeting in Ontario, CA. I should have gone to that to see hear the cars with the lightened FW's to see what they are like. Interesting observation about the FW's. That said, I will for sure get the carbon fiber driveshaft by year's end. As for the FW, there's still a strong likelihood, but I'll try to seek out some Z's with them to hear how they sound. From what I've seen on videos, it doesn't sound that great.

I don't think the flywheel causes the chatter but rather the puck style clutch discs.
I have the old school RPS/SZ FW and no chatter at all mated with a full face clutch.
SZ makes a great lighter FW at 12 lbs. Takes only a few hours of driving to adjust.
When my current FW inserts are worn out I will likely go with a Zspeed FW, they are 17 lbs
(OEM is like 25lbs). Because insets for my current FW are no longer made.

As for the drive shaft, CF is not worth the money for street cars, unless you like to brag about CF stuff on your car.
Can't even show it off cause you can't even see it under to car.
Might be worth while for a track car, I'd just stick with a 1 piece steel or Aluminum.
If you are spirited driver, invest on some sticky tires and brakes. JMHO

Itsa, thanks for being forthright! I have a centerforce dual friction clutch--do you know if there's been a verdict on whether this make affects flywheel sound? I'll still go the CF route simply this was something I've been coveting for some time. But of course, as you rightfully noted, sticky tires are the final word when it comes to spirited driving. My ride has 162K now, so I just hope to change parts to better iterations slowly, but surely.
