I am a new owner of 2012 Nissan Rogue SV.
I am thinking of getting a remote start + keyless entry system.
Do you have any recommendation on which one to get?

Many of the systems allow trunk release and additional aux to be connected to the remote. The trunk release can only be opened by pressing a button on the trunk. There is no button inside the car for trunk release. Is it possible to controll the trunk release with the remote starter remote?

Do you have any recommendation on what else to connect to the remote start? I was thinking the rear defogger (if it is possible), a/c, windows and/or dome light.

Some of the remote start systems come with additional alarm system. Since the Rogue SV already has an alarm system, is it worth getting a combined remote start/keyless entry/alarm system?

If the remote start system is professionally installed by a mechanic or alarm/remote start installer will there be any negative impact on the Nissan factory warranty? I did not see anything in the documentation.

I can't offer any insight on the aux functions, but I will tell you that I have a Clifford 20.7x installed in mine.
A professionally installed remote start will not void the warranty. Call your dealer to see which installers locally they recommend--especially if you have the intellikey. The Intellikey requires a specialized install with a bypass box to be installed and custom programmed. Due to this, my remote start ran about an extra $200 for the box and extra labor.

I'd highly advise getting nothing less than a mile range on the remote start. When they say a mile, they mean line of sight, no elevation change, minimal interference, perfect humidity, etc. Basically, you're never gonna be able to start it from a mile away w/o perfect lab-like conditions.
When inside a structure, this range decreases drastically. When I'm in classes in my local single-story university building, parked no more than 700 feet away (direct line from where I am in the building), it usually can't start it unless I walk out of the room to decrease the distance between me and the Rogue.
I'd also advise a remote start with rechargeable key fobs. I notice a decrease in range after just a few days of use until I charge it again.

Thanks, I appreciate your response. Yes the car does have Intellikey. I was thinking of getting the 1-way system to reduce the need of replacing/recharging the batteries on the fob.

I am also looking into a remote starter but not sure whether or not to go with security. I have a 2012 SV FWD without intellikey and am wondering if it's necessary to get a starter/security combo. Any suggestions on which way to go as well as actual product worth specifically checking out?

Hi. Congrats on your new car. I thought the 2012 SV model came with the Intellikey & alarm by default. It was not an option to purchase on my car SV FWD. Did you get the S model?

With regards to the alarm system I guess it depends in the area where you park your cars, and your comfort zone and how sophisticated you want the system to be. On amazon there are some systems w/ one way remote start/keyless/ alarm systems w/ good reviews which are not too expensive.

I am leaning towards one-way system as 2-way seem to require more battery replacement or having to worry about recharging the remotes often. It may also drain the car battery more as power is required to communicate w/ the remote & depending upon the features of the system, the system may communicate more often with the remotes.

Most insurance companies also give a discount if there is a security system installed. You may want to check w/ your insurance company w/ regards to the discount. The difference in remote start w/ or w/o security system may pay for itself in a short time. I ended up going to a different name brand insurance company for the new car coverage at it was more cost effective w/ the discounts they provided. The new company included more discount for the security system and the overall coverage cost was lower.

I went into the local best buy to get a viper remote start put it in(the kind that works off cell phone towers so it has range). Problem was they said they could do it, quoted me and everything...then they couldn't....something about the wires or security on the car. Just make sure your local professional installers can do what you want before setting your mine on something.

I live in Canada, and the SV FWD does not come with intellikey but does come with security.
I am leaning towards a 2-way so that I know more about what's going on with my car once I start it and don't really mind recharging remotes. I just don't know if it makes sense to spend the extra money for a starter/security combo as the Rogue already has the security and immobilizer features...
In terms of insurance, although I'm sure I'd get some sort of break in my monthly premium by going with a starter/security combo, I already have a pretty low rate and doubt it would be much of a difference.

I also just got the 2012 Nissan rogue AWD SV with SL pkg and intellakey... I badly want the remote start that works with the Iphone, but am having many issues.

1. Some are saying they don't recommend, due to the use of the bypass??
2. Best buy couldn't find what equipment was needed to guarantee they could do the job.
3. there seem to be 2 companies that use the technology of cellphones... Viper and Carlink by audiovox, and I cant find the subscription amount after the initial free month or year or whatever.
4. As of now i would want the carlink, but do i need any 2way and the carlink or will it work with a cheap 1way.

Thanks in advance as this is my first time on any forum.

PS love my rogue, but I wish it were geared to get better gas mileage at 80MPH rather than the old school 55

1. A PROPER bypass does not affect the vehicle at all. You need to have a module installed which requires custom programming, but does not require you to give up a key. In my area, one of these boxes+labor to install adds about $200 to your remote start install.

2. Disregard those morons at Best Buy. Call your dealer and see who in town they recommend. That way you don't have some idiot kid at BB screw up your electrical system or something. Your dealer will know who has done successful installs, or who they take their cars to for remote start installs.

3. It's usually $50-75/year from what I've seen.

4. Pretty sure you have to shell out for a 2-way system at least, if not their top of the line 2-way system.

Thanks I'm definitely going to keep looking for a new better place for the install because I've read the BB horror stories
