So, we have paid this guy almost 1 million over the last 10 years, not including benefits and pension, to do nothing. Nice.....

Don't do it. I've been playing EVE for two years and I still play the game for hours a day. It's addicting. But if you do let me know and I'll set you up with some starter stuff.

Back on topic. This guy seems like an idiot from the article. He was given that job as a settlement for a discrimination lawsuit, after he refused to give up his job when administration changed. Then when they give him this job and don't ask him to do anything, he complains that he doesn't have any equipment? Welcome to NY. This is typical NYS politics. It honestly wouldn't surprise me to find out this has something to do with the cigarette tax, since it is coming up now. The state has been pushing to tax cigarettes on the reservations for years, and they succeeded with a tax on the distributor before it went to them, but I believe this has since been overturned. Last time they tried to implement a tax, the tribe started riots and dropped flaming tires off bridges onto cars, and shut down the interstate.

I wouldn't be complaining....I would have bought a laptop and a wireless card and had fun at work every day. Dumbass.

OT: I've played SEVERAL of the 14-day trials. It's a great game, but when day 15 rolls around and I think about dropping $180 a year on it, I just can't bring myself to.

Plus, now that GS broke BoB, the game will be boinked anyway.

Yeah but I buy my game time for in game money so I just don't pay to play anymore. My email is in my profile if you want to talk more.

I disagree. On the surface, it sounds like typical retaliation against a whistleblower.

I seriously doubt a government workplace would allow you to play computer games at work. They guy wants to contribute, not be a slug.

The guy probably can't contribute. Look at the facts.

He was an investigator for the DEC. He then REFUSES to leave his post for a new apointee when administration changes. He is busted down to the mail room for two years. Then TWO YEARS LATER decides to sue for racial discrimination. The state settles the law suit, not admits guilt, and he is given this job as a settlement. Now he is director of the insurance fund by settlement, with no regard for his actual ability. And before you say "He was Investigator for the DEC, let me remind you that is another appointment job, and those seldom go to the most qualified person. So now the potentially unqualified person, a theory backed up by the fact that his superiors made sure he didn't handle "anything of substance", is running investigations for the state insurance fund.

I don't think this is whistle blowing at all. I think this guys is throwing the race card to get something. And the only guy backign him up is blaming "the big bad GOP" which has almost no hold on NY politics.
article wrote:He said Hinton thought things would improve when Eliot Spitzer became governor, but the Democratic administrations of Spitzer and Gov. David Paterson have not broken the pattern set by the Pataki holdovers still at the helm of the Insurance Fund.
Then when the Dems didn't save him, he sues again, claiming racial discrimination, again, even though the people he complained to were trying to give him more work.
article wrote:They did not return calls for comment, but spokesman Bob Lawson said the fund's managers tried to give Hinton more responsibilities recently after he complained to Wehner.

The offer extended involved overseeing private detective agencies hired by the fund — reviewing bid proposals, investigative reports done by the consultants and methods used. "He rejected those additional responsibilities," Lawson said. He defined Hinton's work duties as being a supervisor of the unit Hinton said was disbanded three years ago. Lawson said he is supposed to alert others about complicated or serious injury reports. He could not say how busy the assignment is but said he is unaware of any problems with Hinton's performance.

Hinton said he dismissed the recent offer because he did not want to do contract quality assurance and work for a contract administrator who was in a entry-level management post.
$50 says THIS is what this is ALL about
article wrote:He said he had attempted to become an environmental conservation officer, able to carry a gun, which would allow him to retire to his tribe as a law enforcer.
This is typical NY BS.

Then let him contribute and document his performance. If he sues, let the courts work it out. Avoiding the normal channels of the system just leads to situations like this.

I agree entirely. The settlement in the original case made all of this happen. If that had gone to trial, it would have been determined if the allegations were true, instead of giving this guy a BS job forever, where he could make the same allegations again. If they were true, this obviously did not solve the problem. If he were out for justice the first time, why did he take just that instead of exposing the problem and getting it solved? If the allegations were untrue the first time, this settlement and the subsequent handling of the situation lead to a place where he could do it again.

This is a big mess cause by a lack of foresight. Typical NY politics. Sweep the problem under the mat.

If I know of NY, they will probably settle by giving him the DEC position he wants, and letting him exploit the system.

In the long run it would have been better to settle with him 10 years ago for a couple hundred thou instead of paying him for 10 years + benefits.
