Hello, I had an awkward sound, want to say a grinding or popping sound from the driver side and slightly on the passenger side but not as often or loud. It only happens when i turn. I know my wheel bearing do need to be replaced but not certain about the tie rods. I had my truck inspected while i had my oil changed, they said wheel bearings need to be replaced, stabilizer links, brakes also need to be replaced. My struts/shocks also need to be replaced. All for a grand total of $1,200 but not including suspension.

They gave me a list with part numbers, so i had my buddy check it out and he agreed so that goes way up. But after all of that was when I heard the noise. we think tire rods possibly as well. So I'm ordering some parts for my friend to replace all that on 2001 Le 3.5l pathy, and i was hoping someone could assist me in finding the right parts that are good quality.I really only fond Timken, National, and Beck/Arnley for the wheel bearings and have been getting mixed opinions on the quality. And the part number seem to change with the brand.

And I found a good post on here about the brakes but i cant find the rotors, but I would like to hear again, an updated one. They were DBA rotors and ebc pads I believe. They look kind of expensive and I couldnt even find the same dba rotors, but I have been looking at different brands for brakes anyways but again hoping to find suggestions. And I dont even know where to start with the drums and shoes. And found so many different parts for the links and tie rods. and possibly a good set of struts/ shocks. I've found kits that contain the tie rods and links but it also comes with ball joints control arms and all. But not even sure they are of good quality. My buddy gave me a VERY fair price to do it all and thought about replacing the front end since I'm not the first and unsure when its all been done, just for peace of mind but only for good price if not ill just wait. So any advice and help is greatly appreciated! Sorry its a long post. And if you need any info or questions please let me know.

Only replace whats broken or worn. Don't do the front end just because. Any one part might outlast the vehicle. Wheel bearing failures for the most part are seldom as are most suspension parts really. Just fix the broke.

As far as brands I always use moog if its available. After that I dont even have a preference its all the same crap. Wagner thermoquiet pads have always done great for me. Just go to advance auto and ask for moog and thermoquiet. If your more picky than that just search I suppose.

Based on recommendations here, I've use Proforged for sway bar end links, ball joints, tie rod ends for a couple of vehicles. Best quality of any brand that I've seen. JC Whitney carry them, free shipping, and decent discount coupons.

You sound like you are throwing parts at the car. Each of the things you want to replace has specific symptoms that indicate replacement is needed. What diagnosis have you done yourself?

Also nobody has mentioned the CV axles but that's what google says the clicking noise could be.

Timken is the OEM wheel bearing and mine have been fine for 156k.

barnaclebob, When making turns, especially right, it kind of feel loose if you will when making the turn. Wheel bearings , you can hear them and when it was jacked up I was able to wobbled the tire a bit.

But for the new noise I can't exactly describe it, like a popping grinding sound if that makes since when turning, mainly right. I also notice it sways just a tiny bit when going 50mph or more which was a problem before the noise.

And to be honest when it happened I quit driving it cause I was off work, short on cash, and didnt want to risk anything happening to it :frown: So i shared my g/fs car and now i'm back from work mans comps so I can do whats needed and more But now just doing what need it.

But front suspension was recommended during the last inspection which was 6 months. Said the ball joints would probably need changed in the near future but not right now with along with control arms.

And I actually just thought about it and asked my buddy and he agrees about cv joint. This will be his first time seeing it so he's going off what i've told you guys, so we will take a look later this week. I'm only going to be charged $300 in labor for all the work but now the price is dropping since I wont do all of the front end. That had a lot to do with why I figured I'd just replace the front end lol. Otherwise I couldn't afford the labor cost for all of that at a shop.

But Brakes are pretty obvious lol

And stabilizer links are loose when i grabbed them and you can hear it over bumps, which are rough due to worn shocks/struts and new ones are on the way.

So far thats all I have gathered. I'm sorry I can't go into more detail then what I have given but it's the best way to explain for time being. Any input would be nice since we cant get to it until the end of the week and my friend wont be back until then.

Thanks for all the help, came here for brands and received much more.

Most of what you mentioned can be done by yourself. It is not that difficult. About the parts, some people swear for moog while I had read horror stories about moog so that is a very personal decision. For struts and such KYB , Gabriel and other brands are all good. Beck/Arnley is a very good brand, and good enough that even BMW uses them. You could easily change all these part by yourself in an afternoon and then just take the car to a shop to get an alignment, which you will always need not mattering who does the job. And 1200 dollars in parts is way too much. You could get all those parts for half of that or even less. You should try to buy best quality on rod ends and struts. Other parts that are mainly solid metal could be cheaper brands since they are all the same. Good luck.

I have done all this @ a hell of a lot cheaper that your quote... I got my parts from Rockauto... Just an FYI, If you are going to do your own brakes.. Then that is the time to do bearings (if needed)... Your bearings are exposed & easily removed when you replace your front rotors...
