yes or nodo you have to remove the head to change out valve stem seals on a ka24de motor. ive heard yes and no. ive been told you got to remove the head. ive also been told you can shoot compressed air. basically whats the easier route to do this.

I'm getting ready to do it on my SOHC. Most engines are designed so that the seals can be changed without removing the head.

There is a compressor attachment that screws into the plug hole. I think you want 170PSI. Then you use a spring compressor and remove the spring. etc...

Did this on a 350 Chevy years ago - it was a piece of cake.

Ive heard the same thing for SOHC motors, just wondering if this could be done with a DOHC SR motor?

the valve stem seals with the head still on? I wouldn't recommend it with the head still on. Reason is this, if you're not careful with the position of the piston, the valve can fall in and then you'd really be in for it with pulling the head off. If you are careful, then it could be in your best interest to just leave the head on and just deal with the valve stem seals. However, if you're gonna pull the head, might as well get some valve work done along with it.

Yes it can be done on an SR with the head still on. However, same risks apply as above.

You hook an air compressor to the plug hole and pressurize the cylinder. The valves won't fall.

ok, here's the thing. yes, it would be a biatch to remove the head but if you are replacing v/s/seals i would go ahead like 180fan said, get some head work* it would be the best thing to do

I did this a couple months ago. Not a big deal. Yes you put some air pressure to the cylendars and make sure that the piston is at tdc on the one your doing but yes..... You dont have to worry about taking it off. I did however have one of the keepers fall down the front chain cover. Thought I would have to tear the whole engine apart to get it. I got lucky and just pulled the oil pan and it was there. Do yourself a favor and put some clean rags in the timing chain area. :P
