Does anybody out there have a "How Too" on pulling the Upper Plenum and Valve cover's ?

In the near future I'm tackling this job as well as all the hoses and Knock sensor.

Ive searched through the FSM and cant find it.I like to study a procedure for a few days before I dive in.

Uck, its an awful job. I have contemplated doing that but it is never slow enough at work. If you are doing it at home you may want to get some common sizes of hose (or have a working car ready for runs to the parts store). There is always something that breaks. I really wish you all the best and how much do you want to do mine?

I'm guessing you have the sweet smell of burning oil too?

I would be more likely to get a 10mm flex head 1/4" socket and a few extensions and tighten down the cover bolts if they are loose and hope that works. I hate messing with things like that. Whenever you have the best intentions everything tends to go to hell.

Don't take my advice though I used a carbide bit and high speed drill to notch my intake so I would not have to pull it to get to the #3 injector and it's leaky seal.

Although I have contemplated building a contraction that would allow me to apply RTV that will bond to all the surfaces and keep the oil at bay. Usually I am hard core about doing things the right way but this tends to make an impressive mess.

I've got to admit I really did not think this car had four valve covers. Shows how often I take the plenum off these. Although I can do a Q in my sleep. The placement of the egr valve is the main reason I stay far away from that.

You just have to be honest about. These cars make great projects and are fun to drive but as they get older the technical inclination required to repair them increases. At least parts are easier to source not cheap but available.

What year Q are you getting?

It all goes back together a lot faster and easier than it comes apart. Think I rather pull the plenum than change the water pump, front oil seals, timing belt, etc. Wish I'd known about the knock sensor and had a job, when I pulled mine. Only tightened valve cover screws. So many good things can be accomplished just by taking apart and cleaning numerous parts. Getting the EGR valve out and in is as much fun as doing the plenum.
