Hey.. My name is Kei... I just purchased a 91 240sx.... I've dropped the transmission to replace input shaft bearing today...

and I noticed the U -joints on my driveshafts are binding... I need to replace them... but I also noticed that the way the u-joints are held up in there... It would be a pain in the butt to press it out.... later I tried to look up for u-joints on advance auto web site... and they don't seem to have u-joints replacement for my car....

so can someone please tell me that I don't have to replace the whole driveshaft just because the u-joints are bad...

and does anyone know where I can get replacement u-joints for a 91...

thanks in advance.....

Welcome to the club Kei! And I am sorry to inform you that to the best of my knowledge you would have to replace the entire driveshaft... (I have looked into this, as my 1990 had some similar issues) If you could find a specialty shop that works of driveshafts then it is a very good possibility that you could get the u-joints replaced. Although if it comes to getting a new driveshaft, depending on your budget, you might want to just get an aftermarket one piece aluminum driveshaft b/c they are cheaper than getting an OEM one from Nissan. Hope this helps...

aww... thanks alot for taking the time to reply....

I was afraid of that...

I'll check the local u-joint place to see how much they charge...

I don't know about you... but I think believes that the factory two piece driveshaft with a center support bearing is a better design than a one piece driveshaft....

again thanks for your help...

Depends on how you define a 'better' design. If you want it to be smooth, stick with the 2 piece dirveshaft with a carrier bearing. The one piece aluminum driveshaft from enjuku racing is much lighter than stock, and will see less losses in the powertrain. This means the car will be more responsive, but it will also transmit more vibrations/bumps, etc. So the choice is yours, but I know exactly what my choice would be....hehe...I don't mind sacrificing a little smoothness for better response...
