At my 50K oil change, my dealer's service writer said that we are due for transfer case and differential service (oil change?)

We are working under the mid way points for Schedule 1 and 2 (we change the oil at 5k intervals). Schedule 1 calls for INSPECTING the differential oil and transfer case oil every 15k miles. It does not set a mileage or time frame for actually changing the oils. If this was not under warranty, (we have extended warranty) I would just assume that they are just trying to sell me unneeded expensive services.

Has anyone else here been told that these services are needed? Did you do them? Am I in danger of voiding my warranty if I don't? Of course, if you have been following the "Premium" schedule, you of course have changed these ...probably several times...and your Rogue will last forever ;-)

Thanks for your help

daytrippr,

You got it right. There is no change interval specified unless you are on Premium maintenance or under certain driving conditions. As for warranty, so long as you follow the minimum Schedule 2 Maintenance, you should be fine.
Transmission Fluid/Oil, Differential Oil, Transfer Case Oil

Visually inspect for signs of leakage at specified intervals. If towing a trailer, using a camper or car–top carrier, or driving on rough or muddy roads, replace the fluid/oil every 30,000 miles or 24months (60,000 miles for cube, Murano,Altima, Altima Coupe, Maxima, Rogue,Sentra, and Versa CVT fluid).

Thanks again, Phillip, Since our driving is 95% 50+ mph on highway or highway like paved roads and it almost never gets hot or dusty here I will continue to stick with the letter of the Schedules 1/2. I have been thinking about changing dealers for my next service anyway as the one I've been going to seems to be pushing the 'extras' more and more lately
