The TPS is attached to the side of the driver's side throttle body (soft aluminum) by two SMALL screws.
It, along with a number of other ECM inputs, determines idle speed and transmission shift points. Rotate it too far one way and the idle speed will be low, the transmission will shift too early, the OD lock-up may at hunt at freeway speeds, cruising rpms will be high and freeway gas mileage will suffer.
Go too far the other way and engine rpms at idle will be high and shifts will be very abrupt.
After installing it you'll need to adjust the output voltage with the engine fully warmed up and idling to between 0.40 and 0.45 VDC. I've posted a photo a couple of times of one connector leading to it with a strand of copper wire inserted into the backside of the connector for purposes of measuring the output voltage. Try using the search feature.
After setting the voltage using a digital multimeter and with the engine still running, you need to momentarily unplug the connector (the engine should stumble a bit) and then plug it back in so that the new output voltage is registered in the ECM.
