Check Engine light on. Code reader says thermostat.

1. Where is it located (left side...follow the hose)? I dont have the van handy, wife just called me and I'm doing research before I get home and buy a new thermostat to instal.

2. Is there anything of notice I should be aware of when replacing it? Is it easy to get to and unbolt to replace?

MA-14 to locate the drain plug; yes there is one!

scroll to CO-19

page PG-27 to move it out of the way to access the part below

ps: that's an expensive part because
engine coolant inlet and thermostat assembly
instead of a traditional t-stat

seems to be a tight fit; hope you have skinny fingers
good luck

thanks.
But it ended up being a thermostat sensor. A $70 sensor. $150 later from a local mechanic and it's fixed. Thanks for the help though.

:welcome: thanks for the update; appreciated it

but in hindsight, if you posted the trouble code, I would have saved you a boatload of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :picard:

autozone's duralast coolant temp sensor with Lifetime Warranty

# SU4072

$21.99 plus tax

& it's an easy part to remove / replace (I woulda done it for $20 labor)

yeah that sucks. to spend that much but after it not working and nearly leaving my wife stranded when I work an hour away it was a little expedient that we get it fixed asap. Next time I'll know better and post up.

just curious; was this at a stealer-ship or just an independent shop? because either way they ripped her off if it was the latter :gotme

usually can have the trouble code scanned at autozone or advance auto parts or o'reilys etc for free as well.

We did get the code at autozone first. But we didn't have time or know how to get it done ourselves. Code didn't say if it was the thermostat or thermostat sensor.

It was an independent shop. And yes I know...they're all rip offs, esp the stealership! $90 for a second key!!!!??

I do or try to do most of my own work. My dad's a mechanic and I don't like to pay someone money for something I could otherwise do myself. Plus it's middle of winter and freezing in my driveway didn't seem like fun.
