While replacing the trans filter on my '01 Maxima, I noticed one of the attachment points is secured by a nut and washer. When removing the old filter, the nut loosened normally, but when I went to install the new filter, what I thought was a stud, pushed up into the transmission. I was able to get the filter in with the nut and washer on. I had to hold the stud with some pliers and tighten the nut. I don't think it is as tight as it should be. Anyone else had troubles with this? Thanks.

I've had a lot of trouble with that one bolt. Some times the stud will turn but the bolt won't. You should be alright, those bolts don't need a whole lot of torque..

I didn't have that problem when I replaced mine. My transmission was out of the car and upside down, that stud didn't move.

I have a 2002 infiniti I35 and had the same problem. When trying to replace the screen, the one stud with a nut on the bottom turned on me. I decided to leave it and reinstalled the other bolts. Later found out on another forum that the stud has a nut on each end, and you can't access the upper end. Maybe next time I'm in there I'll look at securing the stud. Makes you wonder about the "engineers?" designing this.

Thanks all of you for your information and experiences with this issue. After I completed the job, I got to thinking about vibration working the nut off the stud and it ruining my transmission. Your replies ease my fears. Vince.
