My 2001 QX4 is surging and the throttle response is acting up. I had a mechanic tell me that, even without doing a diagnositic report, he is 99% sure it's the O2 sensor as I have 86,000 miles on it. The check engine light has been on and I notice that if I accelerate slowly the car does ok. Punch it...and it acts like it's having problems understanding how much fuel and air to mix...and is shifting strange. The transmission is fine..so I am sure it's the O2 sensor as well.

I can't find any manuals for replacing the old with new. Also, I am trying to figure out there the part is on the car and what all I would need to replace it (parts and tools) without breaking the bank. I see parts saying 2-wire, 3-wire and 4-wire. What is the difference besides price? Can anyone help me with this?

Every where you look (other Forums, etc) it seems that the 01 -03 PFs have a problem with O2 Sensors. My local mechanic cleaned them, cleared the codes, added 2 bottles of STP Gas Treatment, and Check Engine Light has been off. Comes back on once and awhle, but it was not Affecting the performance as far a I can tell. Disconnect the battery for a few hours, put another bottle of STP, and I was good to go for 6 more months. if you bring it to a Dealer with CEL on , $800 please for new sensors. Are they Crazy !!

I'm still looking for my PDF version of the FSM. I'll let you know if I can find it.
