Is replacing your clutch a difficult job with one or two guys helping you? I don't want to spend money to have someone else do this, if I can do it myself. Also, what's a very rough idea of how long this task will take?

As a matter of fact, I've found the clutch on the 240 to be very easy to change. It's a one person job till it's time to go back in with it. The part where I always need a hand is gettin the trans turned and angled just right to line it up to stab it. You have to lay the trans on it's side and slide it into position. An extra set of hands is essential IMAO when you're lyin' on the ground underneath the car. Fought with mine for an hour last time 'fore I had a podnuh come over. 2 seconds later that baby was stabbed.

Save yourself some trouble on getting the top bolts out the bellhousing. Get yourself about 5 or 6 feet of 3/8" extensions with a swivel on the end (I think I use a 24" and 36" together, maybe 2 36's) You're ratchet/breaker bar will be almost back by the rear tires, but that's o.k. The bolts should break pretty easy with that straight a shot. I'd hate to try gettin' em out with anything shorter.

Do you have air tools. Makes things lots easier/quicker. Be careful, a good impact can snap one of the trans bolts.

Don't forget to either drain the gear oil out the trans or shove a rag in the end of it when you pull the driveshaft (unbolt it from the diff., drop the supports and slide it out) or you'll end up layin in a nice puddle of 80w-90. Does anything but a horse fart smell worse? It'd be a good time to go ahead an fill the transmission up with a good synthetic gear oil (Mobil 1 or Castrol 75w-90) Hell, get enough and do the differential too.

Try not to break open the hydraulic lines, as bleeding them can be a *****. On the other hand, if you're rides got some miles, the master and slave can be found pretty cheap and while you're doin the other s**t, .......

Don't be suprised if you have to adjust the clutch throw under the dash. The rod that pushes the master cylinder plunger is adjustable fore and aft. I've had to do it both time's I changed my clutch. Spent 3 days tryin to bleed it the first time fore I realize what was up (back before I found this board).

Also, I had to pull the transmission in my 91 a couple months back to change the clutch throw-out lever pivot ball. It's a $5 dollar piece that the throw-out arm rest on. Mine had snapped off. Granted, there was 260k+ on the odo, but ya never know. Spend the bucks and change it. Got mine from the dealer. Under $6 with tax (south La.)
