for entry level suspension tuning, i was thinking of using tanabe pillow mounts, tie rods, tension rods, tein hr suspension, definatly a front strut tower bar, and a few other things... but those are all the obvious things. i still don't know much about the s13 but i'm learning alot everyday, and before I start my sil80 project, i want to make sure i know as much as i can so i dont waste time and money during the project. what else might i be over looking... suspension wise.. does nismo or someone make sway bars and a rear strut tower bar?

nismo does make rear stb but it's some serious $$$. More impressive than stb's are the sway bars. get those before the stb's as you'll get more performance from them. If you're going to stiffen the front end, might want to look into a nismo power brace.

strengthening the front is important, but if you've got the hatch back model, you want to stiffen up the rear end. Due to its design, the rear is much weaker than that of the coupe, so i'd advise getting a rear STB before the front. the bushings would be nice, but you probably want to wait a little while. Energy Suspension is coming out w/ a full set for the S13. Not exactly sure as to when that may be, but they were on display at the SEMA show. If you're going for a quick steering feel, then make sure to get NISMO's steering rack bushings. The stock ones are a joke. Remember, balance is the key when it comes to suspension tuning. you can fortify the front end all you want, but if your rear end isn't strengthened at all, you're going to have an ill handling car. If you strengthen only the rear, you're going to have a very peaky over steering basket case. If you do it right, though, and you'll be very happy w/ the outcome.

thanks for the info karay. i'm comming from driving an understeering nonLSD equiped SE-R, and I have my suspension tuned to a decent degree, but that's fwd. this rwd is new to me suspension wise.. but i think it's still the same... stiffer in the rear, slightly softer in the front... or am i the other way around?

My best advice is research everything before purchasing anything. I have no experience in suspension but I do know that its better to do it right the first time. Find people with suspension work done that you can go for a ride with or even drive it. Comparison shopping and testing is key to getting it done right.

Is Energy Suspension is coming out w/ a full set for the S14?or do they already have one and is there any other places to get a set of urethane bushings for a S14?

they've already got it for the s14. the other setup that's pretty easy to get are the whiteline bushings. Check pdm-racing for that.

the s14 ones are already out, but not for the s13. . . unfortunate, I know. :( true, the whiteline bushings are currently on the market, but it's not as complete as the energy suspension kit. I'm not even sure whether or not whileline offers it as a kit=more expensive to buy individually. If I'm not mistaken, the S13 kit even comes with polyurethane subframe bushings, along w/ a whole lot of other stuff. pretty much replaces ALL of the rubber crap. . . I'm waiting patiently, ever since the SEMA show, for a set for myself. :D

. . . OK, Just got off the phone w/ energy suspension. . . the master set should be out in a month or so. :D

I think PDM is selling kits of bushings and stuff. Not totally sure about if it's complete or not though. Any ideas on how much the s13 set is going to run and what it includes?

i think you can get the nismo ones from courtesy. they're rather pricey if I remember right.

you can probably get anything nismo from courtesy. and everything nismo is pricey anyways. i think they want 600 for a catback for the spec-v's.

yea, nismo stuff is pricey, but you know the quality is going to be unsurpassed. Anything offered by nismo is backed by the manufacturer, so that means that all of the R&D that nissan does, goes straight into nismo products. The thing w/ Nismo, though, is that a lot of the stuff isn't "racing" stuff. This means that they were disugned for the street. Which is one of the reasons I like Nismo stuff so much. The bushings, for example, are not nearly as stiff as the polyurethane counterparts that are out on the market. The objective of nismo is to have a balance b/w comfort and performance. which, at first, seems a little backwards, but they do it well. The downside is that the R&D is VERY expensive.I have the Steering rack bushings from Nismo, but I'm waiting to get the rest from energy suspension.
