Hi all,

I've done a search on the forums and see that everyone has put in boxes in the boot, but I'd love to if anyone has replaced the rear shelf sub with another 10" and upgrade amp? I love the clean OEM look and dont need massive bass, just better than stock bass ;)

I did a similar 10" rear shelf upgrade on my old SC400 and it worked a wonder, better bass and you couldnt see the upgrade.

Any info/suggestions would be great!

Cheers

Kicker has some 10" 150 watt RMS subs that can be used in free air applications so you don't have to worry about an enclosure.

Thanks for the reply, any idea on whether I'd also need to upgrade the Amp or could this just be a plug n play?

ok I think I got the wrong info.... Just had a look at the back shelf and I see 2 speakers. They look like 6x9's

Is this a Coupe thing? If so, options for sub means aftermarket amp + sub but where would I wire the amp to since there is no original sub amp?

I used to have a 2005 g35 coupe and it had 6x9's as well. The older sedan's have the sub and I would assume the new ones do as well. What I did on mine was build a custom box that fits in the back of the trunk (closest to the seat) since it was shorter. It hardly took up any room. Then I bought an amp with high level inputs and tapped into the 6x9's outputs. I was able to keep all the original speakers installed and add a subwoofer. I put a 10" kicker with a kicker amp (it had a DC turn on feature so I didn't have to run the remote wire) running 150 watts. It added a lot of bass and I always got complements on the sound. I have got a picture at home and can post it later. The Infiniti delership loved it when I turned it in and thought I had it professionally done. You could also do what I just recently did on my convertible. Since I didnt have the trunk space I removed the spare tire and built a custom box in it's place. When you open the trunk you can't even tell it is there. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BzwHq_ ... TdkX3puYUU

great guide!! Going to follow that and pick up one of these:

Only question I have is whether its fine to splice the line from the 6x9 and leave it going to one of the 6x9's and then to the sub amp? I know that I'd need either an amp which can take a high level input, or a filter, but i've never had two speakers running from one output before

Cheers!

The coupe has two 6x9 woofers in the rear deck. Technically there are no subwoofers.

You would be better off putting a small enclosure in the trunk than trying to retrofit.

Hi Audtatious, yep thats where the conversation ended up but thanks for confirming.

So I'll head the box in the boot path, wondering if you may have done the same? if so, any guide/info on your setup?

Cheers!

Since getting the G I've not considered upgrading the Bose system as I'm OK with it. Others here have done upgrades and the Altima Coupe guys have some threads going where they made custom corner fiberglass enclosures. If I were to upgrade the system that's the direction I would take.

That is the same enclosure that I based my mine off of. I soldered to both 6x9 speakers. Because you are using it as a high level input you are at no risk of blowing the channels. The input from the 6x9's get reduced to signal level via the amp or from the high low output converter(and still fully power the 6x9's). It's nice to use an amp that already has it built in to reduce hardware. Side note - the only reason you want to tie into both is in case the music fades from left to right.
