I'm gonna replace my starter tomorrow, and so far the cheapest place I found is Pepboys (rebuilt starter for $130). Does anyone know if they give you a discount/cash back if you give them your old starter? They are closed now, and I want to take it out first thing in the morning if they do take it.

Thanks.

More than likely, the $130 is the price if you bring the original starter in, otherwise there is usually like a $30 core charge.

Are you sure you want to go pepboys? ive heard many horror stories about all things electronic sold from pep boys. a friend of mine went through 4 alternators before he got a good one. cheapest is not always best, but good luck anyway.

i got my starter at Advanced Auto Parts for $124. Works great, sounds different than stock, but that's to be expected. I don't know if you have an "Advanced" around where you live. If there is, i recommend getting it there. Good luck!

i bought mine from World Auto Parts, $85. I don't know if they are just in Cleveland or if they have a branch near you but their prices are really good and i have yet to be disappointed by the quality of their products

The car would not start at all, but if I tapped on the starter solenoid with a socket wrench it would usually start up. I did that for a few days until finally it could take no more tapping.

Didn't get time to go to Pepboys yesterday, but I'm gonna pick up the starter today and let ya guys know how it works.

Two-Forty: The starter is just in there with 2 bolts.

One of the bolts is in a slightly hard to reach place, especially if you can't raise your car too high (i was using the factory jack).

BOTH bolts are easy to reach. The swap should take 10 minutes at the most. I'd go with an OE starter, a local guy went through 6 Pep Boys units in 4 months until I convinced him to buy OE. A lifetime warranty isn't any good if you spend a lifetime pulling the starter out.

Well, the pepboys starter is already in. I'm sure it's just a rebuilt stock unit anyway. Works great, I'm just glad my car starts. :)

Hello I'm having a similar problem with the starter and things and would like to know if anyone can post up a small diagram of how to get that starter out?

I'm driving a 92 240 5-spd
