Hey guys,

I have an 03 I35 with 144k highway miles on the odo. Im tired of getting ripped off by mechanics so i decided to change the spark plugs myself. Firstly which plugs should i get ? brand? iridium or platinum? Also is i purchase plugs that are in accord with my cars specs do i need to gap them or thy come pregapped from the factory? (my car is completely stock). I'm sure this is on everyones mind as well: what kind of preventative high mileage maintenance would i be able to perform myself (i am no mechanic BY FAR). something small that goes along way pardon the cliche...All feedback is greatly appreciated . Thanks.

Rod E.

With Platinum or Iridium plugs, no gapping is needed out of the box.

b'klyn, ny...your main concern is going to be rust from all the salt in the winter. i'd go to a paint shop and get something like truck bed lining sprayed under the body and engine - i saw a ny max with a hole in the transmission housing eaten out by salt. besides that keep your fluids fresh and you'll be good.

my car was leased in boston MA before i bought it and it already has substantial rust damage, it might even be a possibility that the car had water damage. i doubt applying rust inhibitor to rust will do any good and the prospect of sanding down every rusty spot is unrealistic. should i still spray the rust inhibitor ? many thanks for ur input.

for the underside a cut and weld patch work should work better and last longer but it might be pricey unless you can do it yourself or have a buddy with a welder.

for body panel rust sanding and painting should work fine.
