As many of you may remember, my car is rusty. there is some rust starting to eat at the strut towers...(Its been sitting in Manhattan, NY for 15+ Years. Salty Rain + Any sitting vehicle = bad)

Anyways, my father is going on about how "ZOMG! You'll have to worry about your car falling through the towers next winter! WTF WERE YOU THINKING?!?!"

Anyways...SHOULD this be a major concern?

And if it is, where could I find this part, and does it require the entire engine assembly to be removed?

no engine removal needed... though you will want to remove a significant amount of electrical/hose/wiring/struts themselves out of the way - all depends exactly where the rust is.

u'll just need to cut from another car (junkyard, parts car, whatever) & weld it onto yours - better find a good welder for this one.

if the rust is just eating the wheel well area of the struts, you can get away w/ just chopping those off & tubbing the wheel wells - search for tubbing/tubbed wheel wells if you don't know what that is.

Cut and weld. Do it right and you won't see the rust ever again. It might seems like a really hard thing but take it little by little and you'll need only a few days to do the entire car.

Use brake cleaner, engine degreaser and soft steel wool to clean up the area and grind off the rotten parts. After welding and painting primer and enamel, coat it with rubberized undercoat paint to prevent this from happening again.

Hmmmm....Strut Towers dont seem like the kind of thing that's universal...Wouldn't I need to find a junked '89 Nissan 240SX and then steal it off that car specifically?
