My 1992 300ZX Twin Turbo has a non-factory system installed (previous owner replaced the Bose). Rear speakers are garbage and need to be replaced.

I pulled off the driver side, and there is a white/blue wire and a black wire. Not sure on the other side yet.

I'm trying to determine which is postive so I'm sure to hook up my new speakers properly.

I looked at the online manual wiring diagram but having a hard time reading it. I'm assuming this is still factory wire.

Can anyone give me a quick answer on this or will it just be trial and error?

Thanks!

The black wire should be ground, but it's hard to tell. Check the white wire. Sometimes the lighter colors have lettering on them that denotes positive or negative. If not, you may have to pull out the stereo and check back there. Or you can just pull a trial and error and hope the w/b is positive and black is negative. With most of the stereo systems I've looked at, the darker color is usually negative.

Thanks! I will check that out.

Hey, I notice you are from MA as well. Any local Z car clubs I should be checking out?

Would help if you filled out your location and car model :)

ZCCNE is the largest local club, they can be found at http://www.zccne.org. That's about it. I'll keep you updated of local events as I hear about them.

Done!

That cheat sheet was a tremendous help, the wiring matches up.

Now I need to decide between the OEM speaker bracket that will fit 6" x 4" speakers:

And some cutouts I see on eBay that will fit 6.5" speakers:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/6-Rear-S ... 483a7bbb49

Then I choose a pair of speakers.

Can anyone offer an opinion?

I ended up going with the 6.5" cutouts and a pair of Alpine 6.5" speakers. Everything went great.

Sorry I didn't see this till now, but glad it worked out. And of course the cheat sheet worked, I made it :chuckle: I did it in Visio from my FSM.

I'm done for the season, but I'll get in touch with you next spring about meets and cruises.
