I ordered some replacement 6.5" speakers for the rear deck of my 97 i30. I see this disclaimer on Crutchfield.com - Bose radios are incompatible with aftermarket speakers. You can't replace one of the factory Bose speakers without replacing the rest of the Bose system. What the heck does this mean?? Speakers are speakers, no?I looked, and I have the 4 wire white harness...and I assumed that I would just cut that off and figure out which 2 of the 4 wires I need to use. I am sure that someone has installed a set of 6.5" aftermarket speakers....what's the deal with this? Thanks in advance.CB

The Bose speakers have amps attached to the back of each one, the factory headunit is designed only to drive those amps and does not deliver an amplified signal suitable to drive a standard aftermarket speaker.

If you want to replace the speakers you'll need to get a Bose adapter to to connect an amp to to the factory Bose deck to drive the speakers. Sorry if that sounds confusing. :p

No, I get it...but all speakers have 2 connections, a positive and negative. Why can't I hook the existing amps to new 6.5" speakers or can I? If not, can you tell me more about this adapter and where I can get one? Thanks!

if your bose speakers have an amplifier on the back of them then you wont be able to put in aftermarket speakers without amping them, but if you have an amplifier under your rear deck you will be able to putin aftermarket speakers
