replacing oil pan gasket and found a chunk in the pan.

So I'm redoing the oil pan gasket, and found a chunk of aluminum at the bottom. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out where it could originate from. It's round in shape, about 5mm in diameter, seem to be cast aluminum, looks like it might've a ball since there is a crater. My best guess is a pressure relief for the oil pump. I want to be sure into what i'm looking for before I continue tearing it down any further.
