Do I have to take the dash trim off or should the radio be able to pop out with the right din tools?

Have you read the how to section?

I found the Avic install, but I don't think for my stereo it would be that complicated. If theres a different thread, let me know.

??? use the Avic tutorial, whwere it says Avic d3, just pretend it means double din ... no seriously,

if you are replacing your factory unit with just a double din cd player without dvd or nav...and its non Bose, you don't need the

line out converter, speed signal installreverse signal install

everything else is pretty much universal!

you still need the aftermarket double din unit, or you can get the OEM one made for double din units with MANUAL CLIMATE CONTROL.

and you need the antenna adapter, harness adapter, and pac-swi ____ if you want to retain steering wheel controls

Doc, I think that sometime we assume everyone knows what an avic-d3 is. I just realized this: not everyone realizes it's a writeup for the majority of units, especially the newbies. Maybe a insert in the title like (applies to all double din stereo installs) ?

Bingo-my setup is very basic in comparison and I do not need the space for all that extra stuff. I figured it would be more of a plug and play situation as long as I had all the harnesses/adapters. I didn't realize the majority of the write-up actually pertained to my future equipment as well.

But thanks-I will see what I can do this weekend. I will be putting in the stereo, sat radio components and hooking it to the teering wheel controls. I have everything I need, so a little luck will definitely help!

Ok I just reviewed the write up again (a few times) and had a few prelim install questions:

1. What are the chances I can use the stock mounting bracket with my new unit? I am assuming slim to none.2. If I have to swap out the brackets, I will need to change out the climate control unit to screw into the new brackets. But do I actually have to remove the climate control unit entirely?3. Can I assume that from step 10-14 I will follow my individual instructions for the kit I have?4. I am assuming that since my unit is plug and play, the additional wiring instruction would not apply (e.g. i don't have to worry about removing the cluster, fuse cover, half moon, etc.)

1. Stock mounting bracket may actually work... try it out... I don't think it will, but try and see

2. Yes

3. Yes

4. Correct, you don't need to do any of this if you don't have a Pioneer Nav!

All went well..except for that part where I was sent a bad antenna adapter <cry>. I buttoned it up with the bad one attached-the new replacement part will be here by Tuesday.

Also, I did not hook up the steering wheel controls. It looks like I have to splice into the factory wiring-cut off the clip that is there now and connect the adapter I was sent. Would this be normal? Should I wait for a plug and play adapter before doing so or just go ahead with it?
