As much as I love my M, I know there will come a day and time when I feel I need to move up in weight class. I drove my M to the Merc dealer to purchase a cabin filter for my girls CLK and ended up sitting in a CLS55. He looked at my car and marveled for a quick minute, but soon went into his sales pitch. I drove a black CLS55 and I was speechless as I left the dealer. I tried to contain myself, but the salesman saw “it” written all over my face. So, can this be a possible replacement for my M in a year or so?Not to mention all of the aftermarket options(bodykits, lowering modules, etc..)

If you end up with that, I highly recommend changing your name to Pimp Daddy. That is a beautiful car. Keep yours as well. Given what trade-in will probably be you might be able to have your cake and eat it too.Forgive the pun,M.L

Avoid the 3 valve, twin plug, SOHC truck engines and go for the newer DOHC 4 valve engines.

After all, it should be a least as sophisticated an engineering design as your M if you spend those bucks.

hmmm not sure what 3 valve, truck engine is, but that kompressor sounds like a jet taking off. The car is highly sophistacated in more than one way, probably more sophistacation than I've ever need.

Well i think I speak for everyone when I say that the Black Demon is one of the baddest M45s in the west. But if I was rollin in a supercharged 5.4 with amg parts, I wouldn't miss my M too much. If you decide to part ways with your M for a CLS then I'd understand...........one question, if you do make a move are you willing to sell your Eibachs before you trade it in?

yeahhh those highly sought after eibachs! If and when the time comes I'll entertain the idea. The only problem is paying someone 6 hrs of labor to pull them and then the reasle. I paid 500 + to get'em put in, but we'll see. I have soo many people leaving their buisness cards on my car asking me if I want to sell. If it wasnt for the lowered stance I might not get that same reaction. you think? the power of a settled in 1 inch drop!!

hey I figure the demand price for those springs should cover the labor. You're right though it would be a hassle. It would just be painful to know some shlub is riding around not knowing he has the holy grail of lowering kits.

I'm sure its a beast. Question will be how much time you'll be breathless from performance or time in the service bay??? Check the reliability. Consumer reports absolutely thumbs down black circles across the board.

Cakedaddy, that is one sweet benzo but are you willing to deal with those car payments... OUCH!

I'd hate to see you sell your M to someone who won't take care of it.

The CLS is hands down (in my opinion) the most beautiful sedan on the market right now. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, that will be my next vehicle. I am in love with every aspect of that car. Stay away from the CLS63's for now... rumor has it that motor has some issues... the 5.4 motor is proven and reliable. You should get at least 100k out of it before any major service would need to be considered, and most of the time you're just adjusting the impellers on the blower.

Not to tempt you even more, but this video pushed me over the edge. I've always been a HUGE fan of Top Gear, and they give the CLS55 a proper tribute, including a lap time FASTER than Porsche 911 GT3... Absolutely stunning.

The reason it is supercharged is it doesn't breathe well. It is basically the same engine design as a Ford pick up with a supercharger.

Notice that the new AMG engine is not supercharged, but a DOHC, 4 valve with continuously variable camshaft timing.

For a few years there, MB decided selling the nameplate and the three poiinted star was enough and the engineering and build quality didn't matter.

Even the new 5.5L V8 is ultimately a much more effeicient engine and not much slower than the 5.4L AMG.

I agree. It's a gorgeous car to be sure. But Mercedes Benz has got to have one of the worst, if not the worst reliability rating in the car market.

Great video! However, he did say this: "There's only one thing preventing me from buying this car. It's a Mercedes." He went on to point out that in the 2004 JD Power & Associates initial quality survey, Mercedes ranked 9th from the bottom of the list.

Don't get me wrong, I love everything else about the car. But you have to wonder about how often you'd be driving it to the dealer.

I went and spent some more time with the car this past weekend just to realize that I do not need the 55AMG engine. The CLS500 is fast enough for me, although the CLS55 is a beast from red lite to red lite, but…that will get old. The small cabin windows will take some getting use to, especially after riding the M for soo long. I drove a Dodge Charger to Vegas and got use to in by the time I hit Flagstaff, so...-----------------------

lol not really concerned about payments, but I can see how it would be a concern for most.

I took a look at that Rapide and it looks like a db9 with four doors ;( The M looks better than that Asto in my opinion. Didn't Massaretti do the same thing. The sedan looks like the coupe from the front.

whaaattt!!!! The only thing preventing me from dating a super model is that “she’s a model" Whoever "he" is doesn’t appear to like Mercedes at all. JD powers & A$$'s has to be the most bias group out there in the car world. They'll never say anything bad about Toyota!!! >:/ The CLS has been a solid car since it hit the scene in 2006. I've done some home work.

I appreciate the reponses and feed back on the CLS, but I knew bring this car into an Infiniti forum wouldn't be a 100% favorable.

Mercedes quality is improving....if I recall right the new S-class has been rated quite well for quality.

He was saying that he loved driving the car but would think twice about buying it because of it's track record of unreliability.

I believe JD Power's rating of initial quality is based strictly on owners' input from surveys and not biased in the least. Having said that though, I always thought "initial quality" was kind of a useless title anyway. Most of the surveys they mail out are done within a few months of when the car was purchased, hence "initial" quality. And after all, shouldn't ALL new cars have a high level of initial quality? On the other hand, if a car is rated very low for initial quality, then I can't help but think there's a problem. So at least in my mind, JD Power & Associates initial quality results are a waste of time unless you're trying to AVOID a specific car. I hope that made sense...I'm in a hurry.

I don't think asking about a Benz on an Infiniti board is a mistake. Most of us have had very good comments about them, other than their reliability. I myself would love to own one but I've stayed away strictly because of this.

My wife wants a Merc of some sort ... but I have been resisting because of the reliability issue.

A discussion of the various MB models is not a problem at NICO, by the way. Comparisons always help.

I think that was Ali G... haha.

I went to the MB dealer locally here this weekend after all the talk, and took out both the CLS63 and the new CLS550 Sport (AMG). The biggest difference I felt was midrange power... about the same off the line (the 63 has HELLACIOUS wheelspin, honestly I think I spun them at about 80 on a 5-4 downshift) the 550 definately rides a LOT smoother than the 63. I think the 63 is much stiffer than the the 55... otherall this is an amazing machine, and actually driving them pretty much made my mind up... now, to find the 70 or 80k it's gonna take to get a used 55 with low miles...

Oh and do you guys remember hearing a rumor a while back that Infiniti was talking about resurrecting the Q line as a "4 door coupe" similar to the CLS? With pretty much everybody out there going down that road now (New 7 series, new Jag, Audi has an "A7" coming out, and even GM is talking about getting in on it...) i think it would be a great time for Infiniti/Nissan to launch something like that...

If infiniti makes a Q model, i hope they stretch the M out and widen it, then i think it will look almost like a Cls. The M while a very good looking car seems too tall and narrow. Adding the twin turbo 3.8 liter from the GTR as a option wouldn't be bad eithier.

Greetings,CD, that is an outstanding response. I suppose we do not want to lose you and your wit and of course Infiniti owner bias will come out. Furthermore, needless to say, not everyone is in the position to even fathom a CLS. AMG or otherwise. If you have already purchased a CLS, all I can offer is congrats and best wishes.Still think you should trade in the other Benz and keep Count Blacula,M.L

LOL I normally avoid confrontation with the ignorant, but this one needed some attention. Like I said earlier, my lady would go bezerk if I even though of keeping both, but after doing some research; I’d be better off waiting on some lease returns. This could be as earlier as next summer, but we will see. I took a look at the lease returns that are due in and they have some great cars on the list. Time will tell.

Never argue with an idiot, because they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience
