That can't be right. I have one lo-beam out and the dealer wants 200 dollars to replace it. I can do this myself, right?

The low beams are HID on your '99, so it is going to be very expensive to replace.

Only if it's a T.

It's not a T, but the dealer looked up the VIN and said it was Xenon.

Anyone replace these themselfves? How tricky is it?

I have never had to replace mine but it looks easy.

The bulb itself should cost no more than $100.

No, all 1999+ FY33 have HID low beams.

If you don't know what HID is, I suggest you let the dealer or somebody experienced assume the liability of mishandling it.

There is a Tamperproof torx screw, that holds the back of the cover on

you have to remove the battery, or the entire airbox assembly to replace the headlight bulb (depending which headlight needs replacing)

you remove the Torx screw, then unscrew the weatherproof cover (unscrews)

there is a big 1" plug that is now visible, turn that 90 degrees counter clockwise, and the plug will come off.. there is the HID bulb, unclamp the hold down, and remove the bulb

while installing new bulb, make sure you dont touch the glass, and then just reverse the steps

you should be all set

Don't remember doing that to remove teh headlight units, which is rather easy.

Main thing is don't touch the bulb with your skin or anything soiled. Don't force the bulb.

Thanks. I worked in a movie theater when I was in high school and I had to periodically change the bulbs in the projectors which were also Xenon. So I know about keeping finger prints off them.

Those things would burn so hot, we could light cigarettes off them. I seem to recall they were 3000W, but I might be way off.

I don't recommend that!

Refer to the FSM, assemble the correct tools, and you should be fine.

I would take the headlamp units out and clean them while you are at it. I am also a great fan of armoring to prevent loss by damage and scratches on the plexiglas. Especially the foglights. They will get broken otherwise.

I would check fuses first! It is the first thing I would do.I have HID conversion on my Honda Civic and when one low beam went out, all it was a blown fuse, R+R fuse all kosher now!Cheers!

Yep, I will check the fuse - thanks for the reminder. The hi-beam works on that side and I think they share the same fuse, so it's a little bit of a longshot.
