Replacing HID Headlight Bulbs, must High & Low Beam Color Temps Match Exactly?

I just purchased a pair of Halo HID 7500K HB3 Highbeam Bulbs. I want to also replace my low beam bulbs (D2R) as well, but I've noticed that the low beam bulbs seem to be in the 6000k and 8000k temp range... does it matter if the color temps are different between low and high beam bulbs? Also, if I was choosing between 6K and 8K for low beam, would 8K make a better match for my new 7.5K high beam bulbs?

Thanks!

Bradesp

Factory color temp is around 4300K. The lower the kelvin temp(color temp) the more light output. If google serves me right the lamps you bought are actually halogen lamps with a coating that changes the color, which in turn will make them dimmer. It doesn't matter if your low and high beams match because chances are you'll hardly be using your high beams and they're 2 completely different types of lighting. Does that make sense?

I'd have to disagree slightly there... my google for "Halo HID 7500K HB3 Highbeam Bulbs" turns up with this thread... but otherwise HID links (unless you look at stuff that's older, 90s).

I had thought that Infinity had used halogen lowbeams, but obviously not.

re: bradespIf you're going for looks, I would think 8000 K is a closer match than 6000 K. Otherwise, not really sure it matters, like Empty V said. I know some vehicles can have high and low on at the same time, can the QX4? In the PF, I can, if I hold the switch in a specific position (and if I was using halogen bulbs).

All of my google searching of "Halo HID 7500K HB3" sent me to pages that say HID but in the fine print says Halogen. If you look at the pictures they're all halogen lamps. I don't think Halo makes HID Lamps.

2001.0 (I think) was when they went from halogen low beams to HID's. They kept the high beams halogen and put a projector style lens in as well. In the pic below you can see the low beams on top and the projector style lens for the high beams on the bottom.

I'd be careful with buying those Halogen bulbs that have that "tint" or coating on them. I've seen where to overcome the dimming effect that the coating caused they raise the Wattage rating on the bulbs causing them to work at a high temperature and could result in damaging ur headlamp socket. Most vehicles work at a rating of 55W. Those "HID" Halogen bulbs operate at somewhere like 85-100W - greatly increasing the load oon the system. It literally can melt the socket.

Just a lil info becuz it happened to my mom's 2001 focus a few years ago.

And i'm not sure if the Infiniti's have a pre-installed system from the factory but u just can't install HID bulbs in a halogen system. You would have to already had a HID system installed in the vehicle.

Whoops, I just realized I didn't type what I meant.

I meant to say, I thought they used HIDs for low and Halogens for high. And the reason I wanted to say that, is because I thought (because of this thread) that the Qx4 had moved to HID highs as well. I had assumed that Bradsp's HID high was a stock HID replacement, not a conversion kit.

In any case, Empty V, you're right, it is a fake hid.

as for that picture... I would've thought that the HID low was the projector at the bottom, leaving the Halogen high on top. hum.... since you have a Qx4, I'll take your word for it.

re: slaxl

yeah, I'll confirm that... as I had to replace a melted socket last summer, due to a "hid" halogen bulb. Interestingly, the first time I used it, it didn't do anything before I swapped it to a HID kit... it was when my kit burned out a bulb and I used the fake hids again, that it melted my socket.
