It appears as though I have mortally wounded my electric plunger doowhatzit. My fuel door is now perpetually ajar and it gives me an air of moron as I motor down the road. Anybody ever replaced one? Dealer part or "other"? Looks like it just bolts in, but my vision is heinous these days.

Its a bummer man.

First failure I've heard of. Have you tried lubricating it? I know it's controlled by the same solenoid as the trunk release.

Yes. It looks to me the end of the plunger itself done broke. That's modern English for ya. "done broke".

You push the door fully closed and it catches on nothing. It whiffs. Airball. Goose egg. El no grippo. IOS says $180. Junkyard says $20. Hmmmmmmm

I think I'd go used on that one - since it's a rare failure item. I'm wondering if it's just stuck in the retracted position though?

Yep.

You ain't likely to break off two of those, in a couple dozen lifetimes.

Junkyard solenoid + 10 drops of Dexron III inside the plunger = no problems for the next 100 K or so.

Just for kicks, I found the part in the parts book

78850-6P020- ACTUATOR ASSY- FUEL LID OPENER

Brand new is about $100 from Joe but as others said you should be easily able to find a used one.
