Hey,

I'm replacing the rotors and pads on my 03 M45 and had a question regarding swapping out the front rotors.

I've replaced rotors on cars before where i had to repack bearings, press studs, etc. - not a fun job but pretty easy nonetheless.

Just wondering what is required for our M's. If anyone could post the tech pages too, I would certainly appreciate it.

Main question is just whether or not I'll have to repack bearings or if it is just a matter of caliper removal and sliding off the rotor.

Thanks for any and all help.

Just remove the wheels, remove the caliper, remove the caliper bracket and replace the rotors then pads. There is no repacking of anything.

thanks for the help. That's what I was guessing - just didn't want to be suprised when I pulled the wheels to replace the rotors this weekend.

I would also check to make sure that the caliper pins slide smoothly, so that they do not stick!

Use a dial indicator to make sure the hub [is clean] and within oem specs [0.0001"] so that rotor does not warp from mating to an out of spec hub.

Use ziz wheel or brillo to clean off corrosion on old hub.

speaking of rotors, I know there are no big brake kits available.

however.....

since we have the same bolt pattern as a new mustang, has anyone considered this as an option.

I know I know... I'm considering calling around surfing around to see who might have a hat that is the right dimension and rotor/caliper that I might be able to mount with a bracket.

I fabricate sometimes at a race shop and was just wondering if I needed to retrace what someone had already done.

or should i just go with drilled aftermarkets and be done with it.

Well there are a few kits out there for our cars, BUT they are close to 3 grand just for the fronts. The best thing to do would be to find a car that has simialar dimensions(weight and power) as our Ms and get the calipers from that car. Then find a rotor/hat combo(possibly the same as the calipers) and build your own HIGH QUALITY caliper bracket.Or you could use the ones for the 300ZX, but people on here will tell you not to because you may or may not improve your braking. It sure would look sick though.Cheers

I guess I will have to do a search, I had not heard of the 300zx conversion or mix match

I wouldn't consider the 90-96 300zxtt brakes an upgrade.................the newer 2007 M45 would be.

I was talking about the big brake kits that are made for the 300zx. Are the 2007 brakes compatable with the 2003-04???
